Penn State football snapshot profile: No. 45 Charlie Katshir

Going into the 2022 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Penn State roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.

Charlie Katshir is a veteran linebacker that will help provide some much-needed depth at the linebacker positions this fall. He may not be in the mix for a starting role, but Katshir could be a player that gets on the field in some big moments this season as he enters what may be his final season in Happy Valley.

Here is a snapshot profile of Katshir going into the 2022 season.

Depth Chart Overview

Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Penn State’s defense has plenty of talent for a successful season under a new defensive coordinator, [autotag]Manny Diaz[/autotag], but there are some fair questions to be asking about the defense going into the new season considering the departures from last year’s squad. The linebacker position overall is perhaps the biggest question facing the defense in 2022.

[autotag]Curtis Jacobs[/autotag] is a returning starter Penn State is expecting to rely on, and [autotag]Jonathan Sutherland[/autotag] has made a position change from safety to linebacker to help out. The biggest competition for the start of the season appears to be between [autotag]Tyler Elsdon[/autotag] and [autotag]Kobe King[/autotag] for the last starting spot in the middle of the defense.

Charlie Katshir is expected to be a top backup option, perhaps behind Jacobs. Katshir could also be a backup for Sutherland as well, depending on where the need for him may be strongest if necessary. The redshirt senior certainly has a veteran presence and has the experience to count on in a big spot if needed.
