Panthers' Thomas Davis has suspension reduced to one game on appeal
The NFL announced on Tuesday night that the two-game suspension handed down to Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis for violation of player safety rules has been reduced to one game on appeal.
James Thrash, one of two appeals officers jointly appointed by the NFL and NFL Players Association, made the decision.
Davis was given the two game punishment on Monday, a day after his helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams.
Davis blindsided Adams on a block after Packers quarterback threw an interception in a game the Panthers would go on to win. Though Davis seemed to immediately express regret for the hit, Adams took to social media to express his frustration; Davis responded via Twitter, apologizing for the hit.
Adams is in concussion protocol; it is unclear whether he will be able to play this week for Green Bay. It is the second time this season he suffered a brain injury after a blindside hit.
Davis, the 2015 Walter Payton Man of the Year, will definitely miss this Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay; he will be reinstated for the Panthers’ regular-season finale against Atlanta on Dec. 31.
