The Palm Springs Parks and Recreation Committee approved moving forward with the Kimley Horn design proposed for the new 24 court complex at Demuth Park.

** Thank you to Yvonne Wise and her Palm Springs Recreation Department team for their hard work.

** Thank you to our group on the Ad Hoc advisory committee including David Feldman, T Santora, Eli Abuaita, Michael J. Finland, C. Spellman, and a few others.

** Thank you to everyone who attended the three community outreach meetings to give feedback.

** Thank you to the team at Kimley Horn – dynamic, informed, open to suggestions, problem solvers.

If you would like to see the proposed design, go to the City of Palm Springs website or call (760) 323-8272.

This will be a premier venue, with enough courts to host major tournaments, social events, round robins, league play, and regular social play.

Last round robin: With a good chance of rain on Sunday, I am moving this last round robin to Sunday, April 7 at Freedom Park in Palm Desert. Singles start at 7:30 a.m. For more information, call me at 949-939-4888.

Volleyball pickle

Check out Simone Jardim's short video on how to play volleyball pickle.

This is a great footwork, paddle control, communication game.  Two on two, only one bounce allowed on each side, and must have 2-3 touches on a team.  Check out the video, the footwork, the strategy, the energy, the communication, and the paddle control.  Great warm-up game. . . I tried it out on my advanced group, and they loved it.

What is a scorpion?

I introduced this skill to my class, and they loved it.  Check out Zane’s video and Steve Dawson’s video that details this shot.

This shot makes you look like a scorpion.  At the NVZ line, athletic stanch, with both arms up, paddle out in front.  Bend your knees, get down, and attack with the forehand side of your paddle in front of your body.  Instead of dropping your paddle head down when the ball is traveling down to hit a low to high topspin shot, or a reset, how about crouching down, and attacking out in front with a sharp punch attack shot?  Use your other arm by throwing it back to get shoulder power with your punch.  Get on offense.
