Oshkosh West, North High School split girls and boys basketball doubleheader

OSHKOSH - The No. 3-ranked Spartans (2-0, 2-0 Fox Valley Association) came out on top with a 55-50 victory in front of a packed house at West High School, Friday night, over their crosstown foe Wildcats (1-3, 1-1 FVA) in the first of two meetings between the teams this season.

Oshkosh North jumped out to a big lead early in the first half, but West battled back to defend their home court, keeping it close throughout the majority of yet another tightly contested game in the series of the rivalry.

West cut the Spartans' lead down to two points with just under 10 minutes to go, but that's as close as it would get. North kept around a five-point cushion for most of the latter half of the second period to fend off the Wildcats' comeback effort.

Zay Mitchell led the Spartans with 23 points and Stevie Clark added 14 for North.

Dylan Taylor scored a game-high 27 points to lead West.
