Oregon's Caleb Brown the Pac-12 men's cross country freshman of the year
Oregon's Caleb Brown was named the Pac-12 men's cross country freshman of the year Thursday, making it the third time in five years a Duck has received the award.
Cooper Teare and Aaron Bienenfeld were also named to the men's first-team all-conference team, and Alessia Zarbo and Aneta Konieczek were named second-team all-conference for the women.
Brown, who finished 24th at the Pac-12 championship meet in Salt Lake City on Oct. 29, is the ninth Duck to be named the men's conference freshman of the year, joining Charlie Hunter (2018), Teare (2017), Edward Cheserek (2013), Trevor Dunbar (2012), Luke Puskedra (2008), A.J. Acosta (2007), Diego Mercado (2006) and Jason Hartmann (1999).
Teare was the Pac-12 runner-up for the second time in his career, and Bienenfeld placed fifth overall to pace the UO men, who finished fourth. Teare, a senior, is a three-time first-team selection.

Zarbo and Konieczek led the Ducks to a third-place finish. Zarbo placed ninth and Konieczek was 13th.
Oregon State's Kaylee Mitchell was a first-team member and Grace Fetherstonhaugh was on the second-team.

Pac-12 individual champions Charles Hicks of Stanford and Abby Nichols of Colorado were the men's and women's athlete of the year; Hannah Miniutti of Colorado was the women's freshman of the year; and Colorado's Mark Wetmore was the men's and women's coach of the year after the Buffaloes swept the team titles.
The Ducks’ postseason continues Nov. 12 at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Sacramento.
