Oklahoma State football player Trey Rucker arrested, charged with DUI

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State football player Trey Rucker was arrested Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Stillwater police and online records.

Rucker was placed under arrest at 9:32 a.m. Sunday, as first reported by the O’Colly, after police responded to calls of a vehicle sitting through multiple traffic-light cycles at the intersection of Miller Avenue and Main Street.

Rucker, 22, was charged Tuesday in Payne County District Court with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Prosecutors filed the charge as a felony because they allege it is his second alcohol-related offense.

An Oklahoma State official told The Oklahoman the program was aware of the situation, but could not comment further.

Rucker, a redshirt senior safety, has started all four games this season, including the Cowboys’ 34-27 loss at Iowa State on Saturday.

Multiple calls were made to Stillwater Police shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday regarding a silver Chevrolet car that was not moving through the intersection, though the lights were on, according to the police report.

The officer reported immediately noticing the smell of alcohol coming from the car when Rucker rolled down his window, adding that Rucker’s speech was “low and slow.” Rucker told the officer he was driving home after watching video at Boone Pickens Stadium, and that he had not had any alcohol in “one or two weeks,” the report said.

The officer put Rucker through multiple field sobriety tests, reporting that Rucker “missed heel to toe on almost every step” of the walk-and-turn test. The report says Rucker declined to breathe into the portable breath test unit “without speaking to his lawyer first,” the report said, and Rucker was then placed under arrest.

Bond was posted and a court date of 1:30 p.m. Thursday was set for Rucker, who has previously been arrested for suspicion of DUI.

Rucker joined the Oklahoma State football team as a walk-on in January 2021, and in June of that year, was arrested in Stillwater. He pleaded guilty in February to assaulting an officer in 2021, being in control of a vehicle under the influence and other offenses. He was placed on probation.

Rucker did not appear in any regular-season games in 2022 because of an eligibility issue, though the specific reason for his ineligibility was never made public by the university. He became eligible and participated in the bowl loss to Wisconsin in late December.

If convicted of Tuesday's charge, Rucker could face time in prison.
