Edmond North extends lead in Class 6A boys tournament

Edmond North is running away in the team standings in the Class 6A boys tournament.

The Huskies have 182½ points and are followed by Bixby (98½) and three-time defending state champion Stillwater (88½).

Edmond North will have 10 wrestlers competing for championships out of 14 weight classes.

Wrestling in the finals will be junior Jake Goodin (106 pounds), junior Devon Miller (120), senior Hunter Hollingsworth (138), senior Layton Schneider (144), sophomore Joseph Jeter (150), junior Kody Routledge (157), senior Jude Randall (175), senior Talon McCollom (190), senior Oscar Williams (215) and senior Ricky Thomas (heavyweight).

Among the top championship matches to watch in Class 6A will be at 120 between Miller and Piedmont star and OU signee Cash Donnell. Miller, who was at Westmoore last season and is committed to Navy, lost to Donnell in the 2023 state finals in a 2-1 ultimate tiebreaker but beat Donnell in a 3-2 tiebreaker at regionals last week.

At 138, Hollingsworth, an OU signee, will face Bixby senior Jace Roller, who will continue his career at Missouri. Hollingsworth has claimed one state title in his career, while Roller is a two-time state champion.

The 157-pound match will also be interesting as it will feature Stillwater star and OU signee Landyn Sommer and Routledge, a junior Nebraska commit. The two most recently wrestled in the dual state semifinals. Routledge beat Sommer, who won the 165-pound state title last year, in a 6-5 decision.

And at 175, a pair of OU signees will face off as Randall takes on Bixby’s Clay Giddens-Buttram. The two wrestled in the dual state tournament finals earlier this month, and Giddens-Buttram won in a 3-1 decision.

Along with having 10 boys competing for championships, Edmond North will have three girls doing the same.

Junior Taylor Ellis-Hishaw advanced at 125 pounds, junior 140-pounder Bella Williams will try to claim her third state title and sophomore Kinslee Collier will compete in the 235-pound finals.

Williams has yet to lose a high school match, and Ellis-Hishaw is undefeated this season.

The Bixby 126-pounder, who will continue his career at Missouri, advanced to the finals with an 18-2 technical fall over Mustang senior Javin Douglas and will face Stillwater sophomore Julio Aguirre on Saturday.

There have been 45 boys wrestlers who have claimed four state championships.

Walker, who is 38-5 this season, is having a solid tournament, winning both of his matches by technical fall.
