Oklahoma high school wrestling: Storylines, wrestlers to watch at 2024 state tournament

The 2024 Oklahoma high school state wrestling tournament is set for Thursday through Saturday at State Fair Arena.

The defending champions are Stillwater (Class 6A), Carl Albert (5A), Tuttle (4A) and Blackwell (3A) on the boys side and Tulsa Union on the girls side.

Here are some Oklahoma City area storylines and wrestlers to watch.

Top storylines for the 2024 OSSAA state wrestling tournament 

Edmond North boys enter as the favorites in Class 6A. The Huskies won the dual state tournament earlier this month and are one of the best teams in the nation. At the West Regional, Edmond North steamrolled the competition as 13 Huskies claimed titles out of the 14 weight classes.

Tuttle likely to extend streak. The Class 4A Tigers have won a state record 15 straight state tournament titles. After dominating the dual state tournament and West Regional, they’re the obvious favorites heading into the state tournament.

Girls wrestling extends to two classifications. This will be the first year girls wrestling will be split into Classes 6A and 5A at the tournament. The regionals champions last week were Edmond North (Class 6A West), Broken Arrow (Class 6A East), Harrah (Class 5A West) and Little Axe (Class 5A East).

Boys wrestlers to watch at the 2024 OSSAA state wrestling tournament

Cash Donnell, Sr., Piedmont: The OU signee is the defending Class 6A state champion at 120 pounds and won the 113-pound title as a sophomore. Donnell will try to bounce back from a 3-2 tiebreaker loss to Edmond North junior and Navy commit Devon Miller in the West Regional finals.

Beric Jordan, Sr., Noble: The 120-pound OU signee is the Class 5A West Regional champion and holds a 36-0 record. Jordan was the Class 6A state runner-up while he was at Stillwater last season. He won state titles in Ohio as a freshman and sophomore.

LaDarion Lockett, Jr., Stillwater: He’s one of the nation’s top recruits in his class. Lockett, a two-time state champion, is coming off a victory at the Class 6A East Regional at 165 pounds.

Ricky Thomas, Sr., Edmond North: Thomas, who will continue his career at OU, is the defending Class 6A heavyweight state champion. He’s 39-2 this season after winning the West Regional title.

Ethan Teague, Jr., Tuttle: He won the Class 4A title at 157 last season and is at 175 this year. An Oklahoma State commit, Teague enters as the Class 4A West regional champion and with a 34-0 record.

Girls wrestlers to watch at the 2024 OSSAA state wrestling tournament

Kaylee Davis, Sr., El Reno: Davis went 20-0 last season is 39-1 as a senior. She won the Class 6A East Regional at 145 pounds last week.

Lynn Horn, Jr., Blanchard: She’s 27-0 this season and enters as the Class 6A West Regional champion at 135 pounds.

Addie Morse, So., Harrah: The Class 5A East Regional champion at 105 pounds will try to claim her first state title after finishing as the runner-up at 100 pounds as a freshman.

Coty Sessions, Jr., Norman North: She’s the Class 6A West Regional champion at 110 pounds. Sessions was the state runner-up in the same weight class last season.

Bella Williams, Jr., Edmond North: She’s a two-time state champion and remains undefeated at Edmond North. Williams won the Class 6A West Regional at 140 pounds last week.
