It promises to be a pretty special 21st birthday for Connor McDavid, even with another potential deposit to the ‘ol loss column.

With the bye week plus one bonus day tacked onto the end of their league-mandated vacation, the Edmonton Oilers, win or lose, should have free reign on the strip after Saturday’s game versus the Vegas Golden Knights. Good timing.

Whatever sort of soiree is scheduled for the wee hours of the morning will likely wind up being the highlight for the superstar and his teammates. But there’s another contingent that made its way down from Edmonton, and it’s peaking a little earlier than the players on a guest list for some swanky establishment later on in the night.

Thousands of Oilers fans (many of which are now well-oiled) are taking in the sights and sounds in Vegas for the weekend, and they kicked off the festivities for their captain with a special song at the 9:07 mark of the opening period.

The guess is that four or five thousand Oilers fans are in attendance at T-Mobile Arena, ostensibly aiming to take the sting away from a season meant to be celebrated.
