Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett exits Michigan game with knee injury
Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett left in the third quarter of OSU’s game at Michigan with a knee injury.
On a second down play in his own territory, Barrett looked to pass and had nobody open, so he took off and ran. As he approached the 30-yard line, Barrett went down to the turf for about a nine-yard gain.
Everything looked fine at first, but Barrett needed a bit of help to return to his feet. Soon after, Barrett went back down to the field and was evaluated by medical personnel.
When you watch the replay, it looks like Barrett’s right knee gave out a little bit after taking some contact from Michigan linebacker Mike McCray.
Barrett left the game and walked under his own power into the locker room. Soon after, FOX’s Jenny Taft reported that Barrett has an “ongoing meniscus issue” where it “pops out and has to popped back in.”
With Barrett out, redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins took over. OSU trailed 20-14 when Barrett was injured and Haskins led the Buckeyes to a go-ahead touchdown drive.
In 2014, Barrett suffered a broken ankle against the Wolverines. Barrett started that season as the team’s No. 2 quarterback behind Braxton Miller. After Barrett was injured, Cardale Jones came in and led OSU to a win and eventually a national championship.
