Ohio State football class of 2023 scouting report: Luke Montgomery
The Ohio State football recruiting class of 2023 is complete and despite some murmurs of negativity in the crowd, this class is fantastic from top to bottom. One of the studs of this class is a four-star homegrown talent interior offensive lineman from Findlay, Ohio in Luke Montgomery.
Montgomery is widely viewed as a top 120 prospect in the class of 2023 and a top-five interior offensive lineman and of course a top-five prospect in the state of Ohio. The offensive line was great last season, but with the departure of a few studs, there could be potential for a youngster to see time sooner than expected. Let’s dive into what we can expect from Montgomery.

Luke Montgomery is a fun player to watch because he does a great job of redirecting defensive linemen with his ability to shuffle his feet and keep his shoulders square.

It should be no surprise that Luke Montgomery’s biggest weakness is his lack of Big Ten strength. This is not a death sentence as it is a common issue for most incoming freshmen on the line, but don’t expect him to see the field early in his career until he has time to develop within the strength program.

Breaking It All Down
Another four-star instate lineman, Corey Linsley received a redshirt his first year on campus and saw limited action in six games during his redshirt-freshman season. Still, his third year on campus as a redshirt sophomore saw him see significantly more action in ten games as a guard and he took over the starting center spot his final two seasons.
Linsley was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers and became a star in the NFL being named All-Rookie and All-Pro. He was then signed by the Los Angeles Chargers and was named All-Pro again.
Much like Linsley, I expect Montgomery to need two seasons of seasoning before contributing in a major way, but he should eventually grow into a solid and versatile interior lineman.
