Ohio State defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan transferrring to North Carolina

The pipeline from Columbus to Chapel Hill is alive and well apparently. For the second-straight day, a former Ohio State defensive player will be transferring to North Carolina.

On Sunday, Lejond Cavazos made the jump from scarlet and gray to Carolina Blue, and Monday, defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan announced he too will be headed to tobacco road.

Cowan, a Charlotte, North Carolina native, committed to Ohio State as a four-star prospect in the 2020 class. His playing time was limited by injury and by the COVID-19 pandemic, and with an influx of talented guys on the defensive line, Cowan’s spot as an integral part of Larry Johnson’s room seemed to be unsettled.

Cowan released a statement through the North Carolina athletic department as a happy homecoming.

“This is truly a full circle moment,” Cowan said. “Not only was I born into and raised by a Tar Heel family, I also took my very first recruiting visit to UNC as an eighth grader. Since then, the football program has grown a great deal, is in good hands, and is definitely headed in the right direction. I have a long-standing relationship with the staff and players that has never wavered. And, who doesn’t love Coach Mack Brown? This new journey will be special and I can’t wait to get to work. Not only is it a Great Day To Be A Tar Heel, but it’s great to be home!”

Congrats to Cowan on finding a landing spot close to his heart. We’ll continue to follow and root for him as he tries to carve out the next chapter of his college football career.
