Nick Nurse upset he can’t see more of Jaden Springer due to injury

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Philadelphia 76ers are a bit thin at the wing spot at the moment due to the injuries to De’Anthony Melton and Robert Covington. The Sixers will not have either player for their matchups with the Orlando Magic and the Charlotte Hornets on the road.

With Melton and Covington out, this would have been the perfect opportunity for Jaden Springer to get some playing time. The third-year guard is still working on pushing his way into the rotation, but he hasn’t been able to earn that spot just yet.

Springer has been dealing with right ankle tendinitis and he was ruled out of Friday’s contest with the Magic. Before the game, coach Nick Nurse discussed Springer’s injury and the unfortunate timing of it.

“I think that would be a good opportunity for him to be in the rotation and he’s just having a tough time getting over this Achilles tendinitis I guess it is,” said Nurse before the game in Orlando. “They’ve ruled him out again for tonight. He was at practice today and went through most of it, but just not good enough to go on love contact and full speed yet so yeah.”

Nurse is still learning this roster and understanding what each player can do on the floor. This would have been a great opportunity for Springer to show what he can do and that’s the unfortunate part for him as he continues to find a way to get a consistent rotation spot.
