NHL roundup: Blackhawks have two key injuries

Two key players were injured during the Chicago Blackhawks' 3-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final in Chicago.

Bruins center Patrice Bergeron was taken to a Chicago hospital during the third period with an undisclosed injury. He was released Sunday and was cleared to travel back to Boston with the team. It's unclear whether he'll play in Monday's Game 6.

Sportsnet reported that Bergeron might have injured his spleen. Bob McKenzie of TSN said Sunday that report wasn't valid.

Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews sat out the third period with an upper-body injury after taking a hard hit to the head area on a check on Boston defenseman Johnny Boychuk midway through the second period.

Toews will be evaluated Monday morning and the Blackhawks are hopeful that he'll be available to play in Game 6.

---The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired goaltender Jonathan Bernier in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings for forward Matt Frattin, backup goaltender Ben Scrivens and the Leafs' second-round pick in the 2014 or 2015 NHL entry draft.

TSN reported Sunday that the Kings also received $500,000 from the Maple Leafs in the deal.

Bernier, 24, backed up starting goalie Jonathan Quick this season with the Kings and played in 14 regular-season games, posting a 9-3-1 record with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage. Bernier is a restricted free agent this summer.

---Despite the bottom eight rows of Scotiabank Saddledome being submerged in water after the recent flooding in Calgary, Alberta, the Flames are moving ahead with plans for the building to be ready in time to start 2013-14 NHL season in October.

Restoration of the 30-year-old arena is set to begin as soon as floodwaters recede.
