NFLPA wants answers on criminal investigation into Washington Football Team head trainer Ryan Vermillion

The NFL Players Association has filed a request with the NFL with the goal of learning more about the criminal investigation involving Washington Football Team head trainer Ryan Vermillion.

Citing health and safety concerns, union officials said they believe they should receive as much information possible as the investigation unfolds.

“We believe this situation directly impacts player health and safety,” the NFLPA said in a statement. “The NFLPA insisted on language in our collective bargaining agreement that obligates clubs to adhere to all state and federal laws and regulations. We look forward to learning more so we can protect our players.”

The DEA raided both Washington team headquarters and Vermillion’s home last Friday afternoon as part of their investigation. The search at Washington’s facility in Ashburn, Virginia, came after the DEA had spoken to multiple players about Vermillion.

Washington released a statement on Monday, saying that the investigation was not team-related.

Vermillion joined Washington’s staff last year, following head coach Ron Rivera from Carolina, where the two worked together for nine seasons.

Rivera declined to share details of the investigation on Monday, referring instead to the team statement.
