San Diego State offensive lineman looks to get drafted in 2022.

William Dunkle, several mock drafts list him as “Bill Dunkle”, started for three years as an offensive guard and amazingly allowed zero career sacks at San Diego State since starting in 2019. During the 2021 campaign, he earned honors as a member of the First Team All-MW and Second Team All-American.

The Chula Vista native came into his own as a proficient run blocker who creates space for his teammates to excel. Teammate and running back Greg Bell had his first 1,000-yard season following Dunkle’s blocks. The Aztec lineman has proved himself in the trenches at SDSU and is searching for a shot to play at the next level.

Highlights

Strengths

At 6-foot-5, 330 lbs, he has the prototypical frame for the position, matching up with some of the top-tier offensive guards in this year’s draft. In a run-first offense, he’s a stud who locks onto opponents and moves them out of the hole. NFL Draft Buzz says he’s a “solid positional run blocker who flashes the nasty demeanor and killer instinct scouts covet.” He uses his momentum well and when paired with aggression, he’s a force on the line. Dunkle is a high IQ lineman who can expect the rush and have the ability to help the center in blocking schemes.

Weaknesses

His athleticism might be his limitation. According to scouts doesn’t match well the upper echelon of offensive guards. His footwork and technique do not come as clean as other offensive linemen and can get beat on one-on-ones. Despite not allowing any career sacks, he was not known for pass protection, so facing linebackers at the pro level will challenge his skills.

Draft Prediction

It’s hard to tell if San Diego State had more offensive plays to test Dunkle’s pass protection. Yet, his size and running blocking will get him recognized as a Day 3 addition or a priority undrafted free agent.
