West Virginia RB leaves school

West Virginia's leading returning rusher withdrew from school two days before the team's season opener, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Thursday.

Andrew Buie was not listed on the depth chart for Saturday's game against William & Mary after coach Dana Holgorsen announced Tuesday that Buie elected to redshirt this year, saying the junior needed to develop mentally and physically.

"He had to make some decisions," Holgorsen said. "Did we force him to redshirt? No. He just felt like it was in the best interest for him and in the best interest for the program to save his year."

Buie rushed for 851 yards and seven touchdowns last year. He is expected to transfer to another school.
