US hoops age limit unlikely for 2016
There will be no age limit in place for the U.S. men's basketball national team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Sports Illustrated reported the proposed age limit, which would prohibit players older than 23 from being on the U.S. roster, is still likely to be adopted for the 2020 Games.
The plan crafted by commissioner David Stern and NBA owners includes plans for a remade FIBA World Cup that wouldn't restrict players based on age.
Multiple NBA stars and repeat Olympians were critical of the proposal. Kobe Bryant said the idea was "stupid" and LeBron James and Kevin Durant, who is 23, also said they didn't like it.
The makeup of the team will be different in Brazil. USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo told SI that he'll be back for "one more run," but he'll likely have another head coach. Mike Krzyzewski plans to step down after the London Games and speculation has centered on Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich as a potential replacement.
