TCU announced Tuesday that receiver/kick returner KaVontae Turpin, who leads the Horned Frogs in receiving and all-purpose yardage, has been sidelined indefinitely with an undisclosed injury.

However, a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram states that Turpin tore his posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), which could require six to 12 months of rehab. The story links to a tweet from Blaine McDaniel, a receiver at The Woodlands Christian Academy, who is one of Turbin’s friends.

Prayers go out to my big bro @KaVontaeTurpin just talked to him and my man tore his PCL. #MinorSetbackForAMajorComeback #OneHeart

The tweet has since been deleted.

The paper also cites a source that says the injury does not require surgery and Turpin could be back in four to six weeks.

Turpin was injured during the third quarter of last week’s win against Iowa State. He had to be helped off the field and did not return.

He is the team’s leading receiver with 16 catches for 196 yards and he had a punt return for a touchdown in the season opener against South Dakota State. He also has a 64-yard kickoff return that put TCU in position to win the Arkansas game with a field goal but the kick was blocked.
