After undergoing further tests on Saturday, Toronto Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas will bypass surgery on the fracture in his left hand, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Valanciunas is expected to miss approximately six weeks, league sources said.

Valanciunas suffered the injury in the fourth metacarpal in his non-shooting hand during Friday’s win against the Los Angeles Lakers. The 7-footer opted to rehab his hand instead of having surgery.

The Raptors are 8-6 entering Sunday’s game against the Clippers, and will miss the team’s leading rebounder for an extended period of time, opening more minutes for backup Bismack Biyombo and potentially Anthony Bennett. Valanciunas is averaging 12.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in 27.3 minutes per game over 14 contests.

Valanciunas missed 18 games with the same injury in his right hand during the 2012-13 season.

Valanciunas signed a four-year contract extension with the Raptors before the season.
