SDSU assistant Fisher has ALS

San Diego State assistant coach Mark Fisher was diagnosed with ALS and will have new responsibilities with the program, the school announced Saturday.

Fisher is the son of head coach Steve Fisher.

The 34-year-old's new title is "assistant to the head coach." He enters his 12th season with the program. He was director of basketball operations for five seasons and a full-time assistant for the last six years.

David Velasquez fills Fisher's former role on the coaching staff. It is also Velasquez's 12th season with San Diego State.
