Report: Bird planning to change general managers

Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird reportedly plans to promote Kevin Pritchard, the team's director of player personnel, to general manager.

The promotion will trigger the release of current general manager David Morway, according to Yahoo!Sports.

According to sources with the Pacers organization, Bird planned to make the move when he thought Morway would be hired as the Portland general manager. However, Bird will go ahead with the move, Yahoo! reported, despite Los Angeles Clippers general manager Neil Olshey getting the Portland job.

Bird has denied Pritchard, who previously was the Portland GM (2007-10) undercut Morway to get the promotion. Pacers owner Herb Simon still has to sign off on the move.

"Larry likes who Larry likes," one Pacers source told Yahoo!. "Politics don't work with Larry, anyway."

The Pacers had a 42-24 this season, the third best record in the Eastern Conference. They lost in the conference semifinals in six games to the Miami Heat.
