Three-star forward Mayan Kiir made the switch to LSU on Thursday. Standing at 6-foot-9 with a chiseled frame and elite motor, Kiir followed coach Will Wade from VCU (his original commitment) to LSU.

“Most people don’t realize that Mayan is very skilled,” Kiir’s coach, Loren Jackson, said. “On the AAU circuit, we used him around the rim because he has such good footwork and it is just so hard to stop him. He can go in both directions and his jump shot is getting better by the day. His feel defensively is very good and he took more charges on the adidas Gauntlet circuit than anyone else; he understands what other people are trying to do.”

In need of replacements on the interior, Kiir has the chance to step in and help immediately.

“LSU was a very good fit in the SEC," Jackson said. "It is a good league and one that Mayan can play right away in because of his skillset and energy level."

Thanks to the in-roads that Wade had made with Kiir and Jackson, the switch from VCU to LSU went rather seamless.

“We had already visited LSU back in the fall and when we committed to Will Wade and VCU, we did it because of the relationship that Mayan had with Will. He is just really, really comfortable with Will Wade,” Jackson said.

The third commitment in the 2017 class for the LSU Tigers, Kiir joins top-150 signees Brandon Rachal and Galen Alexander.
