Hurricanes place Tlusty on IR

The Carolina Hurricanes placed forward Jiri Tlusty on injured reserve Friday after undergoing an appendectomy.

To take Tlusty's spot on the roster, the Hurricanes recalled forward Zach Boychuk from Charlotte of the AHL.

Tlusty, 25, is expected to be out two to three weeks.

The winger led the team by scoring a career-high 23 goals and had 15 assists in 48 games last season. However, he has just six goals and four assists in 37 games this season.

Boychuk, a former first-round draft pick, has an assist in one game with the Hurricanes this season.
