Ex-Auburn DE Quentin Groves dies at 32

Former Auburn defensive end Quentin Groves died Saturday morning. He was 32.

Per a report, Groves suffered a heart attack. Auburn said he died in his sleep in Trinidad, where his wife is from.

Groves’ breakout game at Auburn came in 2004 as a redshirt freshman when he had four sacks vs. Kentucky. He finished his Auburn career with 26 sacks and is tied with Gerald Robinson for the career lead in sacks as a Tiger.

Groves was selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. While participating in the NFL combine in 2008 he was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson White syndrome.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Wolff-Parkinson White is an extra electrical pathway in the heart that can cause a rapid heartbeat. Groves had surgery for it after it was discovered.

“It’s an extra circuit in the heart, and it speeds up your heartbeat, it’s nothing too critical, but you have to take care of it,” Groves said after his diagnosis (via Auburn’s website).

Groves spent time with seven teams during his NFL career. He was last on the roster of the Buffalo Bills, who released him in September of 2015.

Groves met his wife Teska at Auburn where she ran track. The couple has two children.
