Who are the newest members of the Pennfield Hall of Fame?

BATTLE CREEK - The Pennfield Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its eighth class in festivities surrounding the Pennfield-Wyoming Kelloggsville football game Friday.

Pennfield will induct a five-member class, including Shelley (Jones) Hickok, Dave Morgan, Chris Lok, Justin Katz and Woody Booher.

The 2023 Hall of Fame group will be formally inducted at a banquet Saturday night at Riverside Golf & Banquet Center. The nominees will also be introduced during the varsity football game on Friday.

Pennfield Hall of Fame 2023 Class:

Woody Booher
Woody Booher

Durwood 'Woody' Booher (Community Member)

Woody Booher has been a longtime supporter of Pennfield athletics, having lived in the community for over 45 years. He has served on the Pennfield School Board for 17 years, serving as the president for 10 years. He has also served on the Calhoun Intermediate School District Board for 31 years, including six years as president. A charter member of the Pennfield Athletic Hall of Fame Board, a member of the Pennfield Athletic Boosters for several years and a president of the Pennfield Lions Club.

Shelley Hickok

Shelley (Jones) Hickok - Class of 1990

Shelley (Jones) Hickok was a three-sport standout at Pennfield, earning a combined seven varsity letters in basketball, softball and volleyball. A First-Team All-State selection in basketball, she helped lead the Panthers to two straight league titles and two district crowns, earning all-conference and All-City honors twice. Hickok holds four school records in girls basketball. Was a member of two conference title teams in softball and all-conference in that sport twice. Was named Battle Creek Enquirer Female Athlete of the Year and went on to play basketball at Lansing Community College.

Justin Katz - Class of 1998

Competing in basketball, golf and track, Justin Katz earned eight varsity letters while at Pennfield. He was all-conference and All-City twice in basketball and earned All-State honors as a senior. Captain and MVP of the Panther basketball teams, he set school records in 3-pointers in a season and best free throw percentage in a season. Earning All-City in golf three times, he was a captain and MVP of the boys golf team as well.

Chris Lok - Class of 1993

Competing in football, wrestling and track, Chris Lok earned seven varsity letters at Pennfield. He was a member of Pennfield's state championship football team in 1991 and also the 1992 team that advanced to the state semifinals. He earned all-conference, All-City and All-State honors in football in his senior year and finished with 33 career touchdowns and over 2,000 yards rushing. A member of the 1993 wrestling team that finished as runner-up in the state in the MHSAA Team Finals. A two-time captain in track, he earned All-City and all-league honors. He went on to play college football at Olivet College.

Dave Morgan - Class of 1982

A three-sport standout, earning nine varsity letters in baseball, basketball and golf. Dave Morgan was a three-year All-City selection and earned all-region twice in baseball. A two-year captain of the baseball team, he holds the record for most RBI in a game in the City Diamond Classic with seven. He also has the record for lowest career ERA in the City Diamond Classic at 0.00 in three starts. Also All-City one season in basketball. He went on to become head baseball coach at Kalamazoo Valley Community College for five seasons and was a baseball and basketball official at the high school and college level for 25 years.
