Bobcats' Chandler traded to Mavs

The Charlotte Bobcats have traded center Tyson Chandler(notes) and Alexis Ajinca to the Dallas Mavericks for Erick Dampier(notes), Matt Carroll(notes) and Eduardo Najera(notes), a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Bobcats are likely to waive Dampier and his non-guaranteed $13.1 million contract for the 2010-11 season, league sources said.

The Bobcats had pulled out of deal that they had agreed upon in principle to trade Chandler and Boris Diaw(notes) to Toronto for Jose Calderon(notes) and forward Reggie Evans(notes).. For Charlotte owner Michael Jordan, the chance to get Dampier's contract was the biggest part of backing out of a proposed deal with Toronto.

Instead of taking on $30 million of guaranteed money with Calderon, Jordan will only have to pay a combined $17.1 million to Carroll and Najera over the next three seasons.

As Y! Sports reported on Monday night, owner Michael Jordan had backpedaled on the trade and ultimately reneged all together. All the while, Dallas owner Mark Cuban aggressively pushed to make the play for Chandler to become the Mavericks center. Chandler told Yahoo! Sports Monday that he had been informed he was being traded to the Raptors, but changed when Jordan started eying a trade with the Mavericks.
