Nashville Predators unveil Pride Night jerseys to be worn Tuesday

Nashville Predators forward Colton Sissons said last week that, "As far as I'm concerned we're wearing the Pride jerseys" Tuesday night before the team faces the Vegas Golden Knights at Bridgestone Arena.

The team unveiled those rainbow-themed jerseys Tuesday morning, when the team also changed its Twitter avatar to the jersey's logo, which features the old mustard cat.

The team also posted a message on Twitter on Tuesday morning: "Y'all means all," with the hashtag #hockeyisforeveryone.

Pride Night is part of the NHL's "Hockey is for Everyone" initiative, but the jerseys have caused some discussion around the league this season. Some players have opted out of wearing them, citing religious beliefs or the anti-anti-gay Russian law.

The Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild all held Pride Nights but did not participate in wearing Pride jerseys during warmups.

The only openly gay player under contract with an NHL team, Predators prospect Luke Prokop, recently expressed his disappointment, saying the league has "taken a step back for inclusion."

The warmup jerseys are part of Pride Nights across the league. Some players also use rainbow-colored tape on their sticks to show support. There also are outreach programs, social media initiatives and donations being made to LGBTQIA+ organizations.

Jerseys worn by the Predators on Tuesday during warmups will be auctioned off through the team's foundation.

According to the team's website, the jerseys were designed by local designer Landon Matney

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said last week the league may more closely examine Pride Nights after the season.

“This is the first time we’ve experienced that, and I think it’s something that we’re going to have to evaluate in the offseason,” Bettman told CTV News in Ottawa on Monday. “This is one issue where players for a variety of reasons may not feel comfortable wearing the uniform as a form of endorsement."
