Maroney powers Hingham girls lax: South Shore high school top performers for April 15-21

It's school vacation, which marks the third week of high school spring sports.

Vacation-week tournaments heat up as action in the Chowda Cup boys lacrosse tournament starts on Tuesday and the Staycation girls lacrosse tournament starts on Wednesday.

Saturday, April 20

BASEBALL

Stoughton defeated Oliver Ames, 3-1. Matt Lawson had 2 hits in the loss while Jake Willard pitched well in relief. Ben Newton had a double for his first varsity hit.

Gill Dolan went 3-for-4 with a steal and an RBI, but Weymouth lost to Durfee, 4-3. Jack Reyes drove in 2 RBIs.

BOYS LACROSSE

Bridgewater-Raynham rallied from a 4-1 halftime deficit to defeat Wellesley, 6-5, in the Coaches Cup third-place game. Shaun LaCivita had 12 saves and Colin Carfagna (2 goals) scored the winning goal with 1:23 remaining. Jayson Kelliher and Nikos Triantafillou each had 2 goals and an assist.

Scituate defeated Marshfield, 12-11, in the Chowda Cup championship as Willy Robinson had 5 goals and 3 assists. Lydon O'Brien made 16 saves, 8 of which came in the fourth quarter.

Nolan Petrucelli scored a hat trick in Norwell's 10-7 loss to Mansfield.

Hingham defeated Winchester, 11-3, in the Coaches Cup championship.

Friday, April 19

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hingham's Grace Maroney had 7 goals and 6 draw controls in a 15-8 win over Longmeadow.

Hanover's Hannah Geary had 6 points, and Eva Kelliher added 5 in a 16-3 win over Pembroke in the consolation game of the Patriot Cup.

Whitman-Hanson lost to Marshfield, 11-10, in the final of the Staycation Cup despite a big games from Shannon Balfe (4 goals, assist), Bailey Kelly (3 goals) and Eva Nunes (2 goals). The Rams rallied from a 10-6 deficit after three quarters.

Sandwich defeated host Scituate, 13-6, in the final of the Patriot Cup.

Weymouth's Megan Doyle had 7 points and 16 draw controls in a 20-7 win over Leominster. Kendall Rogers added 6 points, and Mira Flaherty and Molly Keenan each finished with 4 points. Flaherty reached 100 career goals.

Archbishop Williams' Avery Valicenti had 4 goals and an assist in a 12-10 loss to Silver Lake in the consolation game of the Staycation Cup. Caroline Batchelder (2 goals, 3 assists) and Clare O'Keefe (3 goals, assist) also had big games for the Bishops (2-5).

SOFTBALL

Abington's Kasie Bailey had a 2-run single in the first inning to spark a 4-0 win over Whitman-Hanson. It was Abington's lone hit of the game. Riley Agnew and Jess Blyth both scored on a wild pitch in the sixth for the Green Wave (6-0). W-H's Alyssa Anderson had a pair of hits, and Sam Casey drew 3 walks. Losing pitcher Kaitlyn Howard allowed 1 hit over 6 innings with 5 strikeouts.

South Shore Tech's Mia Bradshaw was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double in a 30-3 win over Avon. Molly Peterson (3-for-4, 2 doubles) and Aly Blanchard (4-for-5, 2 doubles, triple) also starred at the plate for the Vikings (3-1), and Hannah Dailey earned the win in the circle.

Marshfield's Sofia Blanco pitched a 2-hit shutout with 6 strikeouts in a 9-0 win over Pembroke. She also had 2 hits and an RBI. Riley Lanzillo added 2 RBIs for the Rams (2-1).

Oliver Ames' Taylor Marino allowed 2 earned runs over 6 innings with 6 strikeouts in a 4-2 loss to Walpole. Crystyliah Covel (2-for-4, run), Katie Berg (2 RBIs) and Paige Taylor (1-for-3, run) starred at the plate for OA (1-3).

Archbishop Williams' Jill Ondrick hit a solo homer and improved to 6-0 in the circle, striking out 15 in a 3-1 win over Bishop Stang. Ciara McMenamin (2-for-4, triple, RBI, run), Candace Sumner (2-for-4, RBI) and Joey Whitney (2-for-3) starred at the plate for the Bishops. Monica Kelley and Regan Parr also had a pair of hits each.

Milton's Christina McA'Nulty was 3-for-4 with a home run, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored in an 11-1 win over North Attleboro. Sadie Steuterman was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and made a great catch in center field. MK Maloney (3 inings, 0 earned runs) and Zahria Daley (2 innings, 0 earned runs) were sharp in the circle for the Wildcats (5-0).

BASEBALL

On the day he recorded his first varsity hit, Cohasset's John Wallingford delivered a 2-out RBI double as the Skippers walked it off, 6-5 over Carver. Luc Lefevre struck out 11 over 5 innings. Carver was led by Nate Dirado (2-for-3, 2 walks, double, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Tyler Lennox (2-for-2, 2 walks, double, 2 runs, 2 steals) and Ryder Holmes (6 innings pitched, 2 earned runs, 6 hits, 12 strikeouts).

Canton’s Brady Gibbons had an RBI single in the fourth inning to account for the lone run in a 1-0 win over Plymouth South. Chris Pirrera got the victory, and Dean Madden picked up the save. For South (2-4), Colin Ducie struck out 8 over 6 innings with a walk, and Landon Medeiros was 2-for-3.

Avon's Jason Maguire, Jordan Medeiros and Jacob Dean each had a pair of hits as the Panthers (3-3) rallied for an 8-4 win over Atlantis Charter and a split of doubleheader. Medeiros allowed 10 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 9 to get the victory. Avon dropped the first game, 13-6.

Scituate's Brendan Whitman was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a 7-4 win over Falmouth in the consolation game of the J.L. Murphy Memorial Tournament.

St. John Paul II defeated Abington, 3-0, dropping the Green Wave's record to 5-2.

Oliver Ames' Lucas Riley was 3-for-3 with a double and a triple, and David Rodgers had a pair of triples in a 10-5 loss to New Bedford.

East Bridgewater's Jaden Lovell had a key 2-out, 2-run single in the fifth inning in a 3-2 win over Bishop Feehan. Devon Blair got the victory, allowing 2 hits and 1 run over 5 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Brody Lovell drove in Matt Werra for the Vikings' third run in the seventh inning. Collin Meserve pitched the final two innings in relief. Joey Foley and Matt Werra added two hits each for the Vikings (3-1).

BC High defeated North Andover, 9-0.

North Quincy's Will Conley had a 2-run single and a stolen base in a 5-3 loss to Franklin. Aidan Bridges allowed 4 earned runs over 6 innings, and Charlie Ambroult and Tim Toland each had a pair of hits.

West Bridgewater's James Sheedy got the complete-game win striking out 3, in an 8-4 victory over Old Rochester Regional. Brayden Ross was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a stolen base, and Jacob Smith was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a sacrifice. Nick Navin (3 hits) and Ryan Nunes (2 hits) also starred for the Wildcats (3-3).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

BC High's Mason Cleary had 21 kills and 21 digs in a 3-1 loss to Methuen.

Thursday, April 18

SOFTBALL

Brenna Howley went 5-for-6 as Abington collected 18 hits in a 16-3 win over Whitman-Hanson. Kasie Bailey went 4-for-5 with two doubles while Maddie McDonald had 4 RBIs and Riley Agney had 3 RBIs. Elsie Testa struck out 12. Malia Goldberg scored 3 runs. For W-H, Alyssa Anderson and Katelyn Hagerty each had 2 hits in the loss.

Weymouth defeated Sharon to improve to 5-2. Bella Pires and Paige Sellon each drove in a run.

BASEBALL

Hingham defeated Archbishop Williams, 5-2. Stephen Ondrick hit his first career home run in the loss.

Bridgewater-Raynham defeated Silver Lake, 8-0, behind a complete game from Jack Ritchie (5 hits, 8 strikeouts). Shamus Barrett was 2-for-3 with a triple and 3 RBIs.

Freshman Luke Joyce hurled a shutout with 8 strikeouts in Braintree's 4-0 win over Norwood. He's pitching 8 innings this week without allowing a run and picking up two wins. Sam Garrity and Nick Rucky each had 2 hits for the Wamps (6-1).

Plymouth South rallied from a 6-0 deficit to defeat Canton, 7-6. Joe Rogan earned the win with 3 innings of scoreless relief while Colin Ducie was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Middleboro's Brayden Wright went 5-for-5 with 5 RBIs in a 9-6 win over Weymouth. Wright was named tournament MVP after going 6-for-10 and driving in 6 runs.

Ben Carista went 2-for-4, but Scituate lost to Sandwich, 5-3.

Plymouth North's Josh Bryant allowed 3 hits and struck out 8 in a 5-inning shutout in a 10-0 win over Dartmouth to claim the Brad Martin Tournament. Logan Zemotel (3 steals), Matt Nardone (2 RBIs) and Conor McLeish (2 RBIs) combined for 6 hits.

Foxboro defeated Quincy, 6-0.

Hanover's Gabe Knudsen pitched a 5-inning no-hitter with one walk and 13 strikeouts in a 10-0 win over Falmouth in the first round of the J.L. Murphy Memorial Tournament in Scituate. Thomas Perkins (3 hits, 3 RBIs), Cole Hendrickson (4 RBIs) and John McDonald (2 hits) starred at the plate for the Hawks (3-0).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Avery Regan had 9 points (6 goals, 3 assists) as Cohasset defeated Falmouth, 19-5. Reese Hansen (2 assists) and Aine Norton (assist) each had 4-goal days. Kate Greer played well on the draw and had 3 goals and 2 assists.

Sandwich defeated Pembroke, 16-2.

Eva Kelliher and Sophie Schiller each had 4 points, but Hanover fell to Scituate, 10-8.

South Shore Tech's Peyton Mathison (2 assists) and Sofia Grasso (assist) both had hat tricks in a 16-3 win over Bristol Aggie. Hannah Nota and Kayla Nota each had 2 goals and 2 assists.

BOYS LACROSSE

Norwell defeated Hanover, 12-3, as Oliver Rice (4 goals, assist) and Joe McCarthy (13-for-18 on faceoffs, goal) led the way. Jake McGuirk had a goal and 4 assists.

Aleksander Prokopiuk, Anthony DeSousa, Sean Rockwood, and Jonathan Goncalves scored in Stoughton's 18-4 loss against Attleboro.

Abington defeated Whitman-Hanson, 13-10. Jonathan Halpin and Hunter Grafton each had 4 goals and an assist in the win.

Marshfield's Graham Schofield had a hat trick, and Nic Cupples and Jon Sullivan each scored twice as the Rams beat Falmouth, 11-5, in the Chowda Cup semifinals. Marshfield (6-0) will play Scituate (4-2) in Saturday's final (4 p.m. at Scituate).

Duxbury defeated Acton-Boxboro, 9-8, as Sam Wien (5 goals) scored the winning goal.

BC High defeated Melrose, 14-4.

Hingham defeated Wellesley, 8-4.

Charlie Hartwell had 3 goals in Scituate's 9-7 win over Westwood in the Chowda Cup semifinals. The Trojans (4-2) will play Wellesley in the final round on Saturday.

South Shore Tech's Todd Egan, of Hanson, had 4 goals (giving him 22 on the season) and 3 assists in a 14-1 win over Hull. Ben Tondorf, of Scituate, added 5 goals (giving him 20 on the season) and an assist.

Wednesday, April 17

SOFTBALL

Sophomore Micaella Gomes hit a home run, had 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs in Avon's 17-16 loss to Atlantis Charter.

Shak Lynch (4 hits), Cara Facey (3), Christina McA'Nulty (2) and Sophie Fish (2) paced Milton's offense in a 20-15 win over New Bedford.

Lincoln-Sudbury defeated Silver Lake, 2-1, in 8 innings. Delaney Moquin took the complete-game loss, allowing 5 hits and 5 walks with 14 strikeouts. L-S pitcher Kelsey Blanchette threw a no-hitter.

Oliver Ames defeated East Bridgewater, 7-6, in 8 innings as the Tigers rallied from a 4-0 first-inning deficit. Paige Taylor (4-for-5) drove in the winning run Devon Morris (2 runs), Katie Berg (2 RBIs) and Jackie Solimine all had 2-hit days. Taylor Marino pitched well and drove in 2 RBIs and Crystyliah Covel had a pair of diving catches in center field. In the loss, Maggie Schlossberg allowed 1 earned run in the loss and Liz McNaught had a 3-RBI double.

South Shore Tech freshman Aly Blanchard (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) and senior Mia Brradshaw (2-for-4, 4 RBIs) starred in an 18-14 win over Bristol Aggie. Hannah Dailey had the victory in the circle.

BASEBALL

John Sellon (3-0) pitched a complete game and struck out 9 as Abington defeated Cardinal Spellman, 5-3. Steve Madden had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Michael Boutiette (2-for-4, double), Tyler Alsen (2-for-4) and Alex Confarotta (double, 2 RBIs) led Spellman's offense. Confarotta struck out 7 over 5 innings.

Nate Smith pitched well in South Shore Tech's 10-2 win over Bristol Aggie.

Braintree's Max King pitched 6 shutout innings in an 8-0 win over Brockton. Hayden Regan had 3 hits, including a three-run triple in the fourth for the Wamps (5-1), and Peter Brooks and Jake Joyce each had 2 hits.

West Bridgewater's Jag Garces took the complete-game loss, allowing 6 hits with 9 strikeouts in a 2-1 defeat against defending Div. 4 state champ Seekonk. Garces was 2-for-3 with 2 stolen bases, and James Sheedy drove in the lone Wildcats' run.

Cohasset's Luc Lefevre was 2-for-3 with double and 4 RBIs in a 10-7 win over Dedham.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Quincy defeated Bridgewater-Raynham, 10-9. Emily Keefe (assist) and Grace LaRose both had 2 goals in the loss.

Marshfield's Noelle Finucane had 4 goals and 3 caused turnovers in a 14-3 win over Silver Lake in the Staycation Cup. Julia O'Brien, Caroline Robbins and Clara McGrath each added 2 goals and an assist.

Archbishop Williams lost to Whitman-Hanson, 16-9, in the Staycation Cup despite big games from Avery Valicenti (3 goals, 2 assists), Caroline Batchelder (4 goals) and Clare O'Keefe (2 goals, 2 assists). The Bishops are 2-4.

Hingham's Grace Maroney (6 goals, 5 draw controls) scored the winning goal with 14.5 seconds left in a 10-9 victory over Medfield.

BOYS LACROSSE

Cardinal Spellman's Jay Comeau had a hat trick in a 9-8 loss to Bishop Fenwick. D'Anthony Amado added 2 goals and 2 assists, and goalie Ryan Glover made 13 saves in his first varsity start.

Tuesday, April 16

BOYS LACROSSE

Falmouth defeated Cohasset, 12-7, in the first round of the Chowda Cup.

Hingham defeated Concord-Carlisle, 7-4, in the first round of the Coaches Cup.

Hunter Grafton had 5 goals and 4 assists in Abington's 16-2 win over Old Colony.

Freshman Trey Thatcher scored his first varsity goal in Plymouth North's 13-6 loss to Barnstable.

Duxbury defeated Xaverian, 11-10, in the first round of the Players Cup.

Scituate's Willy Robinson scored 9 goals in a 19-8 win over Hanover.

Weymouth defeated Silver Lake, 8-6. Jack Kenney scored all six Laker goals in the loss and went over the 100-point mark for his career.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Oliver Ames' Liv O'Rourke scored 2 goals in a 16-9 loss to Mansfield.

Addie Pyy had 4 goals and an assist in Plymouth North's 9-6 win over Silver Lake.

SOFTBALL

Maddie Smith had 11 strikeouts in 5 innings as Weymouth defeated Nantucket.

BASEBALL

Middleboro defeated Archbishop Williams, 4-3, in 9 innings. In the loss, Joe Schwartz went 3-for-3 with a pair of walks and 2 stolen bases.

Dartmouth defeated Bridgewater-Raynham, 5-1.

Drew Hall reached base four times, but Oliver Ames fell to Dighton-Rehoboth, 10-3.

Plymouth North's DC Brown struck out 8 in an 11-1 win over Silver Lake in 5 innings. George Slauson and Cody Quinn (walk, 2 runs) both had 2 hits. RJ Thorp had an RBI single for the Lakers.

Whitman-Hanson defeated New Bedford behind solid pitching from Ryan Baker (3 innings, 7 strikeouts) and Evan Yakavonis (4 innings, 1 earned run). Jason Nye had 2 hits while Cam Beltramini and Johnny Walker each had RBI doubles.

Jack Reyes had 11 strikeouts over 6 innings in Weymouth's 7-5 win over Hingham. Alex Munchback (3-for-4, 2 RBIs), Andrew Daley (3 hits, 2 runs) and JJ Mannion (2 hits, 2 RBIs) paced the offense.

Scott Longo pitched well (5 innings, 2 hits, 6 strikeouts) in Milton's 8-0 win over Foxboro.

Braintree's Sam Garrity was 3-for-4 with a triple, and Hayden Regan and Sean O’Rourke each had 2 hits and a RBI in an 8-4 win over Dennis-Yarmouth. Pitcher Max Deroche allowed 2 hits and 2 earned runs with 6 strikeouts for the Wamps (4-1).

Pembroke's Colin Blake had a pair of hits and 5 RBIs, and Evan O'Brien had a 4-hit day in a 10-2 win over Marshfield. Logan Schipper allowed 6 hits in the complete-game victory, and senior Aidan Sullivan had his first career home run.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Quincy defeated Weymouth, 3-1.

Monday, April 15

SOFTBALL

Maggie Schlossberg struck out 15 batters as East Bridgewater defeated Oliver Ames, 10-2. Devon Morris (2-for-3, run) and Katie Berg (2-for-2, triple, RBI, run) accounted for both of the Tigers' runs.

Ciara McMenamin (three hits) walked it off as Archbishop Williams clinched a 6-5 win over Bishop Fenwick in the 10 innings. Joey Whitney also had three hits for the Bishops, and Rosa McLaughlin stole three bases in her first career varsity game.

Talia Faria (3 hits, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs) starred as Bridgewater-Raynham defeated Greater New Bedford Voke, 5-4. Taylor Reid (run, RBI) and Claire Roy (run) both had 2 hits.

Rivers defeated Thayer Academy, 10-6, but Abby Concannon (double, triple) and Quinn Walsh (2 RBIs) both went 3-for-4.

BASEBALL

Carver's Derek Lopes and Ryder Holmes each went 2-for-3 as the Crusaders picked up a walk-off 6-5 win over Middleboro in eight innings. Nate Dirado struck out five in 7 ⅔ innings, and went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs at the plate. Teagan Zakrzewski and Colin Eakins drove in RBIs, and Bob Alpert earned the win in relief.

In his first varsity start, Abington's Ryan Solimini went six innings and allowed two hits as the Green Wave defeated Monomoy, 9-2. Solomini hit an RBI triple at the plate, AJ Nash had three doubles and 3 RBIs and John Sellon had two hits in the win.

Josh Young tossed five innings to earn the win for Cohasset in a 10-4 final over Blue Hills. Ronan Carnes recorded his first varsity hit, and John Wallingford made his first varsity save, in the win.

Evan O'Brien allowed one run over six innings of work as Pembroke defeated Hull, 7-3, in the Brian F. O'Donnell Memorial Tournament at Hull. For Hull, Nick Tiani was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs and Edward Hipp allowed two hits and two earned runs over 3 ⅔ innings.

George Slauson (2-for-3) hit an RBI double to score Michael Hannon from first to tally Plymouth North's lone run in a 4-1 loss to Taunton.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Emily Keefe scored three goals and Lexi White scored two as Bridgewater-Raynham suffered a 14-9 loss to Falmouth. Emily Long, Grace LaRose, Sydney O’Donnell and Lacey Haikola also had goals for the Trojans, and goalie Ainsley Yates made 16 saves.

Tess Van Ogtrop scored 5 goals in Thayer Academy's 12-11 loss to BB&N.

BOYS LACROSSE

Shaun Teehan scored two goals as Oliver Ames lost to Fairhaven, 5-2. Ryan Jaco (one goal, one assist), Lucas Gangi and Owen Bourne also scored for the Tigers, and Ethan St. Jean made 13 saves.

Archbishop Williams defeated Saint John Paul, 15-2.

Teddy Lally scored a hat trick, but Thayer Academy lost to St. Sebastian's 13-9.
