Multiple hat tricks lead WNC spring sports Week 9 top performers

Here are the Western North Carolina athletes who had top performances this week in spring sports.

Saturday

Baseball

John McIntyre, Asheville School: McIntyre drove in four runs and went 2-for-4 at the plate in a 16-3 mercy rule win over Bethel Christian Academy.

Max Shelton, Madison: Shelton homered and drove in three runs, including the game-tying run, in Madison's 9-8 walkoff win over North Buncombe.

Patrick Metcalf, Madison: Metcalf drove home two runs at the plate and struck out five batters on the mound in 4.2 innings pitched. He gave up no runs, one hit and two walks to earn the win.

Kameron Keenan, North Buncombe: Keenan went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for the Black Hawks in a 9-8 loss to Madison.

Zeb Swangim, Roberson: Swangim's three RBIs helped lift the Rams to a 4-2 win over West Henderson. He also struck out two over two innings on the mound, earning the save.

Friday

Baseball

Manning Stewart, Carolina Day: Stewart struck out seven while giving up only one hit in a complete game 3-0 win over Hickory Christian Academy.

Blake Ritchey, East Henderson: The designated hitter drove in four runs while going 2-for-4 for the Eagles, helping them to their first conference victory, 10-6 over Smoky Mountain.

Brody McMillan, East Henderson: McMillan drove in three runs and went 2-for-5 at the plate in the win.

Mason Anderson, Enka: Anderson had the Jets' lone hit against Reynolds, but he drove in the game's only run on a double in the 1-0 win.

Deegan Randall, Enka: Randall struck out nine batters and allowed only two hits in a seven-inning complete game victory.

Chance Hughes, Hayesville: Hughes drove in three runs, helping Hayesville beat Robbinsville 7-2 to win the Smoky Mountain Conference.

Aiden Burlett, Hendersonville: Burlett shut down Patton over 4.1 innings of relief, striking out eight and giving up just one run to help the Bearcats to a 6-5 10-inning win.

Jaxon Rohr, Mitchell: Rohr had two RBIs and went 2-for-5 in Mitchell's 10-5 victory over Rosman.

Owen Riddle, Mitchell: Riddle went 2-for-3 and doubled twice. He also scored two runs.

Malachi Huskins, Mountain Heritage: Huskins went 2-for-4 and drove home the winning run in the eighth inning in a 5-4 victory over Madison during the first game of a doubleheader.

Markus Wyatt, Mountain Heritage: In the second game of the doubleheader, Wyatt went 3-for-3 while driving in four runs. The Cougars came back to beat Madison 18-14.

Lane Chandler, Mountain Heritage: Chandler had three RBIs in the victory.

Stash Spear, North Henderson: Spear struck out five over seven innings, allowing four hits and one run. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI at bat in the 5-1 win over Pisgah.

Jackson Pavone, Reynolds: Pavone threw a complete game in a 1-0 loss to Enka, striking out six and allowing only one hit.

Cameron Swangim, Rosman: The sophomore went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in Rosman's 10-5 loss to Mitchell.

Dawson Gunter, Smoky Mountain: Gunter totaled four RBIs in a 10-6 loss to East Henderson.

Ayden Smiley, Swain County: Smily doubled and drove in four runs for the Maroon Devils, finishing the day 3-for-5 at the plate in a 13-8 win over Murphy.

Softball

Emma Bailey, Brevard: Bailey homered and drove in two runs at the plate. In the circle, she struck out six over six innings pitched, allowing seven hits and one run in a 15-1 win over Polk County.

Memory Frapp, Robbinsville: Frapp went 2-for-3 and homered, driving in two runs in a 10-0 win over Hayesville. She also struck out six batters and allowed two hits in five innings pitching.

Carley Teesateskie, Swain County: Teesateskie went 3-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs in an impressive 5-4 win over Murphy.

Girls soccer

Chloe Crisp, Tuscola: Crisp tallied a brace in Tuscola's 5-0 victory over Smoky Mountain.

Julia Wells, Tuscola: Wells made five saves in 63 minutes in goal, helping preserve the clean sheet.

Thursday

Baseball

Chip Hoornstra, Asheville Christian Academy: Hoornstra doubled twice and compiled three RBIs in a 5-0 win over Hickory Grove Christian.

Emery Fischer-Schmidt, Asheville High: Fischer-Schmidt singled in the seventh inning to send the Cougars home with a walk-off win over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, 4-3. He also struck out two batters in the top of the seventh to lead the go-ahead run stranded.

Jackson Hursey, Franklin: Hursey went 2-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs in the Panthers' 4-2 win over North Buncombe.

Malachi Hayes, Franklin: Over six innings pitched, Hayes struck out six batters while allowing two hits and one earned run.

Dawson Devane, Hayesville: Devane's three RBIs helped power the Yellowjackets to a 12-2 win over Andrews. He also stole two bases.

Kyle Shaheen, Hayesville: The junior struck out nine batters and gave up five hits in a six-inning complete game performance.

Stash Spear, North Henderson: Spear homered and drove in three runs, but the effort wasn't enough in a 17-6 loss to East Rutherford.

Jake Parham, Roberson: Parham went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Roberson beat McDowell, 15-4.

Caden Davidson, Roberson: The first baseman went 3-for-4 at the dish, driving in three runs.

Truitt Manuel, West Henderson: Manuel struck out 14 batters in 6.2 innings pitched, helping the Falcons to a 7-4 victory over Tuscola.

Softball

Ciana Hall, Brevard: The senior drove in four runs and went 3-for-3 at the plate in Brevard's 13-2 win over North Henderson.

Mia Roland, Owen: The freshman had a monster day at the plate with seven RBIs and two home runs in a 3-for-5 day, helping Owen to an 18-0 win over Avery County.

Elly Wright, Owen: Wright allowed one hit while striking out nine in a five-inning complete game.

Easton Whitson, Owen: Whitson went 2-for-3, homered and drove in three runs.

Aubrey Treadway, Reynolds: Treadway struck out 10 in seven innings in the circle, allowing only five hits and one run as the Rockets beat Tuscola, 7-1.

Kadyn Williams, Reynolds: Williams went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs in the win.

Courtney Grimmer, Roberson: Grimmer homered and drove in two runs, finishing the day 2-for-3 at bat in Roberson's 11-6 win over Erwin.

Addie Mull, Smoky Mountain: Mull's four RBIs led the Mustangs to an 11-1 victory over East Henderson. She also struck out 10 and allowed two hits over five innings pitched.

Callie Winchester, Smoky Mountain: Winchester went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Mustangs.

Girls soccer

Lily Flores, Avery County: Flores' hat trick lifted the Vikings to a 4-3 victory over Mountain Heritage.

Abby Huter, Brevard: Huter made seven saves to preserve the shutout win over East Henderson, 2-0.

Lynlee Johnson, Mountain Heritage: Johnson recorded a brace, but the Cougars still fell 4-3 to Avery County.

Marianne Maxon, West Henderson: Maxon powered the Falcons to a 7-0 win over Crest with four goals and two more assists.

Wednesday

Baseball

Toby Wilson, Asheville High: Wilson delivered the walk-off hit in the 11th inning of a 3-2 win over North Lincoln.

Sterling Haynes, Carolina Day: Haynes doubled and drove in three runs in Carolina Day's 11-1 win over Oakbrook Prep (S.C.).

Ayden Sumner, East Henderson: Sumner homered and drove in four runs as the Eagles downed Owen, 12-2.

Mason Smith, East Henderson: Smith struck out eight batters over six innings, allowing six hits and just one earned run.

Softball

Audrey Snowden, North Henderson: Snowden struck out 11 batters, gave up six hits and allowed one run in a 7-1 win over Hendersonville.

Tannon Sorrells, Pisgah: The senior went 3-for-4 and had two RBIs in an 8-3 upset win over Enka.

Sadie Messer, Pisgah: Messer struck out 14 batters over seven innings, allowing seven hits and just one earned run.

Girls soccer

Kate Pratt, Roberson: Pratt's hat trick led four different goal scorers in a 9-0 win over Enka. She also had an assist.

Julia Wells, Tuscola: The freshman keeper saved six shots to keep a clean sheet in Tuscola's 1-0 overtime win over North Henderson.

Hannah Downs, Tuscola: Downs scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help the Mountaineers beat the Knights.

Marianne Maxon, West Henderson: Maxon scored two goals and added three assists in a 9-0 win over Smoky Mountain, bringing her to 33 goals on the season.

Tuesday

Baseball

Trent Maybin, Asheville High: Maybin went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs as the Cougars defeated Franklin 11-1.

Jordyn Brown, Brevard: Brown drove in four runs in Brevard's 12-11 win over Polk County. His three-run double tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning before he scored the go-ahead run.

Gus Robinson, Brevard: Robinson drove in three runs for the Blue Devils.

Talan Crowe, Cherokee: Crowe drove in three runs and went 2-for-3 to help bring the Braves to a 7-6 win over Hiwassee Dam.

Colton Ballard, Hendersonville: The junior homered and drove in five runs as part of Hendersonville's offensive outburst in a 10-0 win over Patton.

Noah Vines, Mitchell: Vines drove in three runs in a 13-11 win over Rosman.

Grey Reedy, North Buncombe: Reedy drove home the winning run in a 4-3 victory over Erwin. He went 2-for-3 with a double.

Peyton Maybin, North Henderson: Maybin allowed four hits while striking out six and giving up no runs in a complete game win. The Knights beat Pisgah 6-0.

Aiden Warnock, Owen: Warnock struck out seven over four innings pitched, allowing one hit and one unearned run in a 4-1 win over Avery County.

Gavin Puckett, Owen: Puckett drove in three runs and went 2-for-3 in a 15-1 win over Avery County during the doubleheader.

Lawson Carter, Polk County: Carter drove in three runs and went 2-for-5 for the Wolverines, but Polk County fell 12-11 to Brevard.

Luke Nesbitt, Reynolds: Nesbitt struck out five, walked three and allowed two hits in 5.1 innings pitched. He didn't allow an earned run in the Rockets' 3-1 win over Enka.

Reno Jeter, Roberson: Jeter struck out eight in 3.1 innings pitched, earning the win over McDowell, 8-1.

Cameron Swangim, Rosman: The left fielder drove in four runs for the Tigers, but they fell 13-11 to Mitchell.

Cade Graning, Smoky Mountain: Graning drove in three runs to help the Mustangs earn their first conference win over East Henderson, 13-5.

Will Holden, Swain County: Holden drove in four runs, the most for the Maroon Devils in an offensive boon as they beat Murphy 18-7.

Bradyn Ruais, Swain County: Ruais scored four runs, drove in three more and went 2-for-2 in the win over the Bulldogs.

Grady Lewis, Swain County: Lewis added to Swain County's offense with three RBIs of his own.

Amos Rich, Tuscola: Rich shut down West Henderson on the mound in a 4-0 win, striking out 14 while allowing one hit and three walks in seven innings. He also tripled and drove in two runs.

Softball

Kirstin Kerr, Asheville High: Kerr doubled twice and drove in two runs, but the Cougars lost 12-6 to Roberson.

Claire Wilson, Brevard: Wilson homered, drove in two runs and helped lead the Blue Devils to a 7-4 win over Polk County with a 3-for-3 day at-bat.

Kieran Wolfe, Cherokee: Wolfe's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Cherokee a 5-4 win over Hiwassee Dam.

Karly Presnell, Enka: Presnell struck out 11 batters and gave up two runs on five hits in a 2-1 loss to McDowell.

Jaycee Woody, Erwin: Woody powered Erwin to a 5-4 win over Reynolds, hitting two home runs and driving in three in a perfect 3-for-3 day.

Avery Moffitt, Franklin: Moffitt hit a three-run blast as part of a five RBI day in Franklin's 11-2 win over North Henderson.

Meyaeh Tran, Franklin: Tran went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs in the Panthers' victory.

Kayley Huggins, Hendersonville: Huggins hit a grand slam as part of a five-RBI day in Hendersonville's 23-10 loss to Patton.

Averie Russell, Hendersonville: Russell homered and drove in two runs, finishing the day 3-for-3 at the plate.

Addie Sams, Madison: The freshman doubled twice, tripled and drove in two runs in the Patriots' 7-2 victory against Mountain Heritage.

Miranda Wall, McDowell: Wall went 2-for-3 with a double and the game-winning RBI in a 2-1 win over Enka.

Avery Boone, Owen: Boone drove in three runs and homered in Owen's 16-1 drubbing of Avery County.

Ally Smith, Pisgah: The freshman threw a complete game with six strikeouts, five hits allowed and two runs given up, delivering the Bears a 3-2 upset win over West Henderson.

Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville: Shuler had a two-home run day with four RBIs, helping Robbinsville to a 13-0 defeat of Hayesville.

Memory Frapp, Robbinsville: Frapp matched her teammate with two home runs and four RBIs.

Courtney Grimmer, Roberson: Grimmer went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in two runs in a 12-6 win over Asheville High. She also struck out nine and allowed just one hit in 5.2 innings pitched.

Savanah Green, Rosman: Green homered and drove in five runs in a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Rosman beat Mitchell 13-4.

Madisyn Brooks, Tuscola: Brooks hit her first career home run and drove in five runs in Tuscola's 15-0 win over East Henderson.

Addi Sampson, Tuscola: Sampson struck out seven and didn't allow a hit in the three-inning mercy rule win.

Monday

Baseball

Chase James, Asheville Christian Academy: James hit a three-run home run to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning, which proved to be the winning runs in a 5-4 victory over Lakeway Christian Academy (Tenn.).

Devrey Hernandez, Carolina Day: Hernandez drove in five runs and scored three more during a 3-for-4 day with two doubles. Carolina Day beat Invest Collegiate Imagine 16-0.

Cade Caruso, Hayesville: Caruso doubled twice and drove in three runs, pacing Hayesville's offense in an 11-1 victory over Robbinsville.

Will Bolyard, Hendersonville: Bolyard tripled in the bottom of the sixth inning to drive in the winning runs in a 2-0 victory over Erwin.

Jaxon Dillingham, Madison: Dillingham went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in a 5-4 win over Draughn.

Softball

Camdin Shelton, Erwin: Despite a home run and two RBIs from the sophomore catcher, the Warriors fell 12-2 to West Henderson.

Gracie Thrasher, Murphy: Thrasher homered in the second inning and doubled in the sixth. The double drove in the game-winning runs as she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in a 4-3 victory over Swain County.

Sadie Jo Hunter, North Buncombe: Hunter struck out 13 and held Reynolds to two hits in a 2-0 victory.

Lily Metcalf, North Buncombe: Metcalf drove in both runs on a single in the first inning and finished the day 3-for-4.

Easton Whitson, Owen: Whitson hit a home run and went 2-for-4 at the dish. Her two RBIs and two runs scored help the Warhorses to a 10-4 win over Freedom.

Suri Watty, Robbinsville: Watty went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. She also scored three runs in a 16-1 win over Smoky Mountain.

Presley Caylor, Robbinsville: The freshman homered and drove in three runs to help propel Robbinsville's offense.

Memory Frapp, Robbinsville: Over four innings in the circle, Frapp struck out eight batters and gave up two hits.

Marley Orr, West Henderson: Orr hit a home run, drove in two and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in a 12-2 mercy-rule win over Erwin.

Girls soccer

Lily Foo, Asheville High: Foo's hat trick paced the Cougars' offense during a 9-0 win over Erwin.

Amber Hernandez, Madison: Hernandez scored two goals to help keep the Patriots' undefeated season alive in a 3-0 win over NCSSM: Morganton.

Claire Rhoden, Reynolds: Rhoden saved all five shots she faced to record a shutout in a 3-0 win over Enka.

Shayne Pratt, Roberson: Pratt scored three goals as the Rams dominated the game against North Buncombe, winning 4-0.

Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville: Shuler was named the MVP of the Blue Ridge Classic in the women's field events after winning the long jump, triple jump and high jump.

Nse Uffort, Swain County: Uffort won the discus and shotput events at the Blue Ridge Classic, earning the Buck Buchanan award.
