WNC high school Week 8 spring sports top performers, including a no-hitter, 19 save game
Here are the Western North Carolina athletes who had top performances this week in spring sports.

Baseball
Chip Hoornstra, Asheville Christian Academy: Hoornstra had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with six RBIs and a home run. He also threw two innings, striking out three and combining with three other pitchers for a no-hitter in ACA's 13-3 win over Hickory Christian Academy.
Charlie Collins, Christ School: Collins struck out nine batters over six innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs, but the Greenies fell 3-1 to Covenant Day.
Friday
Girls soccer
Holly Lanter, Asheville Christian Academy: Lanter scored two goals to lead the Lions to a 5-0 win over Carolina Day.
Nora Felty, Brevard: Felty scored a brace to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 win over North Buncombe.
Baseball
Jay Secretarski, Asheville High: Secretarski drove in three runs to lift the Cougars over McDowell, 10-1.
Sterling Haynes, Carolina Day: Haynes doubled twice and drove in four runs in a 3-for-4 day at the plate, helping the Wildcats to a 13-3 win over Pinnacle Classical Academy.
Garen Hardin, Carolina Day: Hardin drove in four runs while going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Ty Aycock, Enka: Aycock drove in five runs, including a grand slam that ended the game in a 10-0 win over rival Erwin.
Chance Hughes, Hayesville: Hughes drove in four runs and went 2-for-4 from the plate as Hayesville beat Murphy 16-1.
Michael Mauney, Hayesville: Mauney went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the conference win.
Jakob Knighton, Owen: Knighton drove in three runs, leading the Warhorses to an 8-4 win over Thomas Jefferson.
Eli Rigsby, Pisgah: Rigsby homered and drove in three runs in an 8-1 victory over East Henderson. He also doubled, going 2-for-4 on the day
Quinn Jumper, Robbinsville: Jumper drove in three runs on two doubles, leading the Black Knights to an 8-1 win over Hiwassee Dam.
Ethan Orr, Robbinsville: Orr struck out 11 and gave up just three hits in a complete game win.
Reno Jeter, Roberson: Jeter drove in four runs, including a three-run home run, in a 9-5 win over Science Hill.
Softball
Claire Wilson, Brevard: Wilson went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs in a 16-7 win over Chase. She scored three runs.
Emma Payne, Enka: Payne's three RBIs helped lead the Jets to a 19-0 victory over Roberson in four innings. She went 2-for-3.
Kendall Rumans, Franklin: Rumans homered twice in a 4-1 win over Pisgah. She also struck out six and gave up four hits over seven innings in the circle.
Nevaeh Buchanon, Mountain Heritage: Buchanon allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out 14 batters in a 7-2 defeat of Mitchell.
Layla Worley, Mountain Heritage: The sophomore catcher drove in two runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate, including two doubles, in the win.
Julia Dockery, Murphy: Dockery hit three doubles and drove in four runs in a 16-0 victory over Hayesville.
Paisley Johnson, Murphy: Johnson struck out 11 batters and gave up just four hits in a five-inning victory.
Addi Sampson, Tuscola: Sampson struck out six batters, allowed five hits and gave up two runs over seven innings in an 8-2 win over North Henderson. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in two runs.

Girls soccer
Charley Goodwin, Brevard: The freshman tallied two goals to bring the Blue Devils to a 3-0 win over R-S Central.
Abby Huter, Brevard: Huter made six saves, preserving the shutout in Brevard's win.
Maggie Bish, Hendersonville: Bish's brace helped the Bearcats to a 4-2 win over Polk County.
Caroline Taylor, Polk County: Taylor scored two goals, but her brace wasn't enough in a 4-2 loss to Hendersonville.
Baseball
Seth Coxie, Asheville Christian Academy: Coxie drove in three runs in a 10-3 win over Upstate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Jaxon Dillingham, Madison: Dillingham homered and drove in three runs in an 11-10 win against Avery County.
Patrick Metcalf, Madison: Metcalf drove in three runs, including the tying run in the seventh inning before the Patriots walked it off.
AJ Mackey, Mitchell: The freshman hit a grand slam in Mitchell's 18-5 win over Mountain Heritage. He also struck out seven batters on the mound, giving up seven hits and five runs in a complete game win.
Jace Blanton, Mitchell: Blanton went 3-for-5 with four RBIs in the win over Mountain Heritage.
Graylen Orr, Robbinsville: Orr went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. He drove in two runs and scored three in a 12-6 win over Rosman.
Truitt Manuel, West Henderson: Manuel drove in the winning run in the eighth inning, giving the Falcons a 3-1 win over Franklin. He also struck out 11 batters in 5.1 innings pitched, allowing four hits and walking three.
Softball
Rylee Plemmons, Madison: Plemmons struck out six and allowed only two hits over five innings in an 11-0 win over Avery County.
Madi Dillinger, Mountain Heritage: The third baseman tripled twice, doubled and drove in three runs in a 3-for-4 day at the plate, helping the Cougars to a 9-5 win over Rosman.
Sadie Jo Hunter, North Buncombe: Hunter threw a shutout in a 1-0 win over McDowell, striking out 14 batters and giving up only two hits.
Mia Roland, Owen: The freshman homered and drove in two runs to lead the Warhorses to a 4-0 win against Swain County. She also stole two bases.
Sophie Neal, Owen: Neal struck out 10 batters and gave up five hits to earn the win against the Maroon Devils.
Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville: The Tennessee commit homered twice in an 11-1 win over Cherokee. She drove in three runs, scored four runs and walked twice.
Wednesday
Girls soccer
SK Whittemore, Enka: Whittemore recorded two goals in a 4-0 rivalry win over Erwin.
Ruby Jacobelly, Reynolds: Jacobelly scored a hat trick and assisted on another goal, lifting the Rockets to a 5-0 shutout win over North Buncombe.
Aria Giles, Roberson: The freshman tallied a brace and assisted on another goal, leading the Rams to a 7-0 win over McDowell.
Lucy Sloan, Roberson: Sloan also scored two goals for the Rams in the victory.
Marianne Maxon, West Henderson: Maxon contributed to every goal in the Falcons' 6-1 win over North Henderson with a hat trick and three assists.
Baseball
Hayes Hillier, Asheville High: Hillier drove in four runs, including the final run in an 11-1 mercy rule win over McDowell.
Carter Burnette, Asheville High: Burnette struck out 10 batters and allowed two hits over 5.2 innings in the win.
Alex Perry, Polk County: Perry drove in three runs and was on the receiving end of a hit by pitch twice in a 9-8 win over East Henderson. He also struck out five in six innings of work on the bump.
Amos Rich, Tuscola: Reynolds mustered just three hits off Rich, who shut out the Rockets while striking out eight in a 2-0 complete game victory. He also drove in the winning run.
Softball
Aaliyah Reed, Cherokee: The shortstop had a big day at the plate with a home run, a triple and six RBIs. She led the Braves to a 12-2 win over Hayesville by mercy rule.
Kinsley McKinney, McDowell: McKinney's home run and four RBIs made the difference in an 8-4 win over Reynolds.
Dana Hensley, North Henderson: Hensley went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including driving in the winning run on a double in the eighth. The Knights upset Franklin, 5-4.
Mia Roland, Owen: The freshman had five RBIs and a home run, propelling the Warhorses to a 7-3 win over North Buncombe.
Autumn Edmonds, Reynolds: Edmonds went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, but the Rockets fell 8-4 to McDowell.

Cate Brown, Polk County: The freshman keeper made eight saves, helping deliver the Wolverines a 4-1 victory over Patton.
Baseball
Andrew Stein, Carolina Day: Stein went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lift the Wildcats to an 11-1 victory over Statesville Christian.
Sam Waddell, Enka: The center fielder drove in two runs in a 2-for-4 day at the plate, helping Enka knock off Erwin 6-4.
Dawson Devane, Hayesville: Devane drove in three runs and went 3-for-4 at the plate. He also threw out two baserunners and stole two bases.
Eli Teague, Madison: Teague hit a grand slam, helping propel Madison to a 16-6 win over Avery County.
Cason Jones, Mountain Heritage: Jones homered to help the Cougars to a 4-3 win over Mitchell.
Stash Spear, North Henderson: Spear threw a no-hitter against Polk County, striking out six and walking three in a 6-0 victory.
Alex Hannah, North Henderson: The second baseman recorded three RBIs while going 2-for-2 with a double and two walks.
Jackson Warnock, Owen: Warnock went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and helped Owen to an 11-1 win over Thomas Jefferson.
Ethan Orr, Robbinsville: Orr homered and drove in three runs in a 2-for-5 day at the plate. He stole a base and struck out three batters in 1.2 innings on the mound.
Carter Hayes, Swain County: Hayes' two-home run, six-RBI day gave Swain County a 14-3 win over Andrews.
Brayden Cockrell, Tuscola: Cockrell was locked in during a 10-0 win over Smoky Mountain. He went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs at the plate and threw five innings with nine strikeouts and two hits allowed in a complete game victory on the mound.
Brady Duvall, West Henderson: Duvall hit a grand slam to help send the Falcons to a 19-9 mercy rule victory over Franklin. He also struck out all five batters he faced on the mound.
Truitt Manuel, West Henderson: Manuel doubled twice and drove in four runs in the victory.
Jackson Stepp, West Henderson: Stepp went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Softball
Claire Wilson, Brevard: The junior homered and drove in two runs amid a 2-for-3 day at the plate. The Blue Devils beat Chase, 6-1.
Haley Carter, Erwin: Carter's four RBIs and home run were part of the Warriors' offensive onslaught in a 27-2 win over Asheville High.
Jocelyn Shelton, Erwin: Shelton threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out eight in the second game of the doubleheader against Asheville High. The Warriors won 5-2.
Carrie Gunter, Madison: Gunter threw a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Avery County, striking out 12 and walking one. Her day wasn't done there - she homered, doubled twice and drove in four runs at the dish.
Navaeh Buchanan, Mountain Heritage: Buchanon had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two doubles.
Taryn Morrow, Murphy: The senior hit a grand slam to launch the Bulldogs past Hayesville, 10-4.
Paisley Johnson, Murphy: Johnson struck out 16 Yellow Jackets batters, allowed one hit and gave up no earned runs.
Sadie Jo Hunter, North Buncombe: Hunter struck out 19 batters in a 10-3 win over Roberson.
Suri Watty, Robbinsville: Watty drove in four runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate in a 14-2 win over Hiwassee Dam.
Ezilah Baylon, Smoky Mountain: Baylon drove in three runs in a 2-for-4 day at the plate to lead Smoky Mountain to a 10-3 win over North Henderson.
Kaitlyn Taquette, Smoky Mountain: Taquette went 4-for-5 at the plate and drove in two runs.
Carley Teesateskie, Swain County: Teesateskie homered and drove in three runs in a 10-0 win over Andrews.
Rylee Rawls, Swain County: Rawls struck out 12 while giving up just two hits in a five-inning complete game win.
Makena Henderson, West Henderson: The catcher homered and drove in two runs, leading the offensive charge in a 13-0 win over East Henderson.
Sarah Walker, West Henderson: Walker struck out five batters over three innings, allowing two hits in the win. She helped herself at the plate with a home run.

Sara Thingvoll, Enka: Thingvoll recorded 19 saves, keeping Enka in the game against Asheville High, but the Jets ultimately lost 2-0.
Addy Sutherland, Madison: The junior scored two goals with one assist in the Patriots' 7-0 victory over Mitchell.
Eliza Jackson, North Buncombe: The sophomore's two goals proved the difference as the Black Hawks defeated Erwin 2-0.
Ava Staton, North Henderson: The freshman tallied a hat trick to guide the Knights past Pisgah, 4-0.
Opal Redmond, Reynolds: Redmond scored two goals, helping to lead the charge in a 7-0 win over McDowell.
Julianna Gonzalez, Reynolds: Gonzalez matched her teammate's scoring output with a brace of her own.
