Most memorable Mets spring training moments

Most memorable Mets spring training moments

Mets spring training over the years has featured lots of interesting and downright bizarre moments.

Here are the most memorable ones...

Mike Piazza goes after Guillermo Mota

Piazza and Mota had a history of bad blood, and things boiled over in 2003 when Mota drilled the catcher during a spring training game.

An enraged Piazza charged the mound, Mota ran away, and a huge brawl erupted.

David Wright named captain

Wright was named captain before the 2013 season, becoming the first Mets player to serve as captain since John Franco from 2001 to 2004.

Yoenis Cespedes and Noah Syndergaard on horseback

Cespedes -- who had a ranch -- and Syndergaard, rode horses to spring training in 2016, because of course they did.

The Mets, fresh off a World Series appearance, were clearly feeling it.

Tebowmania

Tim Tebow signed with the Mets in September of 2016, and made some strides in the minors while pursuing an MLB career.

He never got to the bigs, but he made waves at spring training in 2017.

Luis Guillorme's bat catch

In 2017, Guillorme turned heads not only for the ridiculous one-handed catch he made of an errant bat, but because of the nonchalant way he did it.

Jacob deGrom signs extension

The Mets agreed to a five-year extension with deGrom just a few days before Opening Day in 2019, which was his self-imposed deadline for getting a deal done.

Of course, the extension deGrom signed was one he eventually regretted, with the ace feeling it was well below his market value. And it was the last deal he signed with the Mets, before leaving via free agency following the 2022 season.
