Montrezl Harrell explains his game-winning bucket in Sixers win over Cavs
PHILADELPHIA–For a preseason game, Wednesday night was a thriller for the Philadelphia 76ers.
They were hosting a Cleveland Cavaliers team who figures to be much improved with the addition of Donovan Mitchell and the two teams fought to the wire. The Sixers ended up pulling out a 113-112 win thanks to the play of Montrezl Harrell who scored 13 points and the go-ahead layup which turned out to be the game-winner.
Cleveland’s Lamar Stevens tied the game at 109 with a put-back dunk with 30.9 seconds remaining. The Sixers then called timeout and drew up a play which led to Harrell scoring at the bucket with 26.7 ticks remaining. The Cavs missed and Matisse Thybulle then iced it with free throws.
“Coach just drew up a great play, honestly, man,” said Harrell. “I just tried to get us a good shot attempt at the goal. He drew up a play for us to kinda get the 2-for-1 possession, but I faked the hand-off, they didn’t really do a good switch, I turned the corner, and I saw daylight. Just felt like I had to make a move to get a good shot up.”

Harrell is a workhorse who continues to add to his game. A move on Wednesday, that looked like a move that a guard would make, was nothing he can’t do out on the floor.
“I work on my game a lot in the summer,” Harrell finished. “That’s not a move that I’m not accustomed to. It’s something I do. I play guard all summer long, man. Ask anybody. Drew League, wherever I go that’s what I do.”
The Sixers will face the Cavaliers again on Monday to continue the preseason.
