Montgomery Central football hires Sycamore assistant Wyatt Page as coach

Montgomery Central has named Wyatt Page as its next football coach.

Page, who spent the last three seasons as an assistant at Sycamore, replaces Corey Wright, who stepped down as Central's coach in November. Central went 2-18 in Wright's two seasons, including a winless 2023.

"I would like to thank the administration of Montgomery Central High School for this opportunity," Page said in a release. "My wife Allie, my son Jett, and I are very excited to be a part of the Montgomery Central family! I am dedicated to building a program that is based on hard work, discipline, academics, and being a great representation of the Cunningham community. It's time to get to work! Looking forward to meeting you all soon."

A 2016 graduate of Creek Wood, where he played as an offensive lineman and tight end, Page started 34 games at left tackle at Cumberland from 2016 to 2020. He was twice named a team captain for the Phoenix.

After graduating from Cumberland, Page joined the staff at Sycamore, where he coached offensive line, special teams and strength and conditioning. He was named Region 6-3A assistant coach of the year last season after helping the War Eagles average 24.6 points, their second-highest figure of all time.

Sycamore rushed for 2,468 yards in 11 games and averaged 6.5 yards per carry in 2023, led by the region's offensive player of the year, Hicks Hunter, who broke the school's rushing record with 1,667 yards.

"Ultimately, the team felt that Coach Page was the best fit for the position based on his playing and coaching experience, vision for both the athletic and academic aspects of the team, and overall enthusiasm for the future of our program," Montgomery Central athletic director Jason Greene said in a release. "We are excited to see what our team can do under his direction."

Central has made just four playoff appearances in its 52-year history, but three of them came under the stewardship of Jeff Tomlinson, who coached at Central from 2012-21 before leaving for Dickson County. Tomlinson went 46-57 in Cunningham, leading Central to its first-ever 10-win season and playoff victory in 2018.
