Saturday results: Emma Isroff helps Lake volleyball to a three-set sweep of Alliance

McKinley boys, Sandy Valley girls win at Newcomerstown

The McKinley boys and Sandy Valley girls cross country teams won team championships at Saturday’s Newcomerstown Invitational.

With Hunter Gearling and Elijah Corrn leading the way, the Bulldogs won the large division team title by five points over John Glenn. Gearling was the overall winner in 17:05.62. Corrin finished second in 17:07.25.

Sandy Valley won the girls small division team title by 12 points over Dalton. Casey Russell of the Cardinals was runner-up in 19:37.57.

Madelyn Begert captures title at Brian Armstrong Invitational

Madelyn Begert’s first race of the season on her home course was a winning one.

The Northwest sophomore won the girls race at the Brian Armstrong Invitational. Her time was 19:11.79.

Northwest finished just one point behind Western Reserve Academy in the race for the girls team title.

Tusky Valley finished first and Northwest came in second in the boys race.

Northwest’s Dylan Easterling came in second in 16:51.02. Tusky Valley’s Jake Kapper was third in 17:24.81.

Jackson runners-up at Hilliard Davidson Hot Summer Bash

Eli Ilg helped lead the Jackson boys to a second-place finish at the Hilliard Davidson Hot Summer Bash.

Ilg finished second overall in 15:29.60.

Minerva sweeps titles at East Canton-Lee Sternberg Invitational

It was another meet sweep for the Minerva cross country team on Wednesday.

The Lions won the boys and girls large division team titles at the East Canton-Lee Sternberg Invitational. The sweep came four days after they won both large school races at the Claymont Early Bird Invitational.

Minerva’s Grasyn Rettig won the boys race in 16:44.8. Led by Katie Ison’s runner-up finish, the Lions placed five in the top six in the girls race.

Louisville's Kylah Meyer had a decisive win in the girls large division race. Her winning time of 19:35.4 was just over a minute ahead of the rest of the field.

East Canton's Audrey Wade was the runaway winner in the girls small division race on her home course. Her time was 19:06.4. Mogadore's Katie Lane came in second in 20:44.4.

JACKSON 4, GREEN 0 Four different players scored goals for Jackson as the Polar Bears opened Federal League play with a victory at home over Green. Geoffrey Dolan, Dakota Hanlin, Roman Altieri and Isaiah Allen all scored for Jackson to help the Polar Bears secure the win.

"We played well tonight," Jackson head coach Michael Biros said. "There are still things we could improve on. We were a little rushed at times on offense and we have some players adjusting to new roles but things are starting to come together."

Dolan scored in the first half with 27:57 to play. The other three goals were scored in the second half.

"This was a good game for us," Dolan said. "The coaches and the players have all put in a lot of hard work and that showed tonight."
