Mitchell Marlins boys fall at Brookings to open 2022

Jan. 2—BROOKINGS — The Brookings Rangers remained undefeated on the season, improving to 6-0 on the year with an 8-1 win over Mitchell in high school boys hockey Saturday at the Larson Ice Arena.

Brookings outshot Mitchell 41-7, including 21-2 in the first period and scored five first-period goals in the game. The Rangers' Ashton Witte had four goals in a six-point winning effort.

Mitchell's Tanner Puetz had the Marlins' lone tally, a second-period unassisted power-play goal. Drake Jerke made 33 saves for Mitchell in the loss in net.

Mitchell (0-6-1) returns home to host Huron for its first home game in a month at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7 at the Mitchell Activities Center.
