Mississippi State women's basketball beats Tulsa, wins 2023 Van Chancellor Classic

Mississippi State women’s basketball kept its undefeated record intact Sunday with a 102-58 win against Tulsa at the Van Chancellor Classic in Katy, Texas.

Despite being shorthanded, MSU (8-0) cruised to a victory behind Debreasha Powe's 24 points while Darrione Rogers scored 22. Four other Bulldogs scored in double figures, including guard Jerkaila Jordan (10 points, 13 rebounds) who has scored at least 10 points in every game this season.

The Bulldogs were without coach Sam Purcell who wasn't on the sideline due to an illness. Assistant Michelle Clark-Heard stepped in to serve as the acting head coach. MSU announced that Purcell is, "doing well and is expected to be back with the team soon."

Rogers' big outing came in a starting role as she stepped in for All-SEC forward Jessika Carter who did not play.

MSU opened play at the nonconference tournament with a win against Clemson on Friday before beating Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Saturday.

Mississippi State returns to action Wednesday for a matchup against Miami in the ACC/SEC Challenge at Humphrey Coliseum. The Hurricanes (5-0) are off to a hot start after making the Elite Eight for the first time in program history last season.
