Mississippi State basketball guard Martavious Russell enters transfer portal | Report
STARKVILLE — Mississippi State basketball guard Martavious Russell has entered the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports. He is the second player from Mississippi State to enter the portal this offseason, joining fellow freshman Kimani Hamilton.
In his lone season at MSU, Russell appeared in 10 games. He averaged 1.7 points per game, highlighted by a career-high seven points in a win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Russell is a native of Coker, Alabama, who committed to Mississippi State in 2021 when Ben Howland was the coach. Russell stayed true to his signing when Chris Jans was hired as Howland's replacement after the season ended. Jans was given a contract extension Wednesday.

In his short stint with the Bulldogs, Russell's athleticism was on display. He had a one-handed dunk in that game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff which earned him a spot on SportsCenter Top Ten.
As a prospect out of Sipsey Valley High School, Russell was a three-star player, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Mississippi State has yet to add a player from the portal since its season ended with a First Four loss against Pittsburgh in the NCAA Tournament.
