Mississippi State baseball starter Jurrangelo Cijntje leaves game against Ole Miss early

OXFORD — Mississippi State baseball starting pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje was removed from the Bulldogs' 12-inning game against Ole Miss on Saturday after throwing just three frames due to a tight back, coach Chris Lemonis said after the 10-9 defeat.

"His stuff was there, just pulled him out," Lemonis said.

Cijntje threw just 54 pitches in the second game of this series between the Rebels and Bulldogs at Swayze Field. The ambidextrous sophomore was replaced by righthander Brooks Auger.

Cijntje allowed three runs ‒ two of which came on an Ethan Lege homer ‒ in his three frames. He began the game with a 5-1 record and a 3.45 ERA.

Mississippi State started the series with an 8-0 victory on Friday night on the back of a sparkling start from Khal Stephen. However, the Rebels responded by overcoming deficits on numerous occasions to rally for a late-night win Saturday.

Jackson Ross' single with the bases loaded in the 12th proved the be the final blow in the thrilling matchup. The rivals will meet Sunday (1:30 p.m., SEC Network+) for a rubber match.
