The Milwaukee Bucks are set to sign free agent forward Danilo Gallinari

MEMPHIS – Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst said after the trade deadline on Feb. 8 that the team would sign a 15th player, and they will do that by bringing in 35-year-old forward Danilo Gallinari.

Gallinari began the season in Washington after missing all of 2022-23 with a torn left anterior cruciate ligament and played 26 games off the bench for the Wizards before being traded to the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 14. He appeared in six games with the Pistons before being waived on Feb. 8.

A 6-foot, 10-inch stretch big, Gallinari was originally the No. 6 pick of the 2008 draft by the New York Knicks. He’s played for seven other teams in his career and missed the 2013-14 season with his first left ACL injury.

A career 38.2% three-point shooter, he is making 35.5% of his threes this season in about 15 minutes per game.

Though Doc Rivers could not speak on Gallinari specifically before the game in Memphis on Thursday because the deal was not yet official, the Bucks head coach allowed that "Shooting and size, it matters. And veteran leadership. A guy that knows how to play the game. Great passer. Someone like that" could help his team.

Gallinari played for Rivers in Los Angeles with the Clippers from 2017-19, starting 89 games and making 40.8% of his threes in averaging 18.7 points per game.

Gallinari's agent announced the signing. Gallinari will join the team after the all-star break.

He has career averages of 15.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
