Milan boys, SMCC girls post victories in Huron League dual meet

MILAN – Milan sprinters Adam Johnson and Virigil Gruwez-Guinet gave each other some good competition in leading Milan's boys track and field team past St Mary Catholic Central 104-24 Tuesday.

Gruwez-Guinet (11.38) edged out Johnson (11.57) in the 100 meters, then Johnson (23.25) nipped Gruwez-Guinet (23.48) in the 200.

Johnson was also busy with the relays, running joining Nolan Matley, Gavin Tomecek and Jeremiah Woods in the 400 and Matley, Tomecek and Noah Bussell in the 800. Milan also won the 3,200 relay with Caleb Klein, Parker Prior, Wesley Murphy and Dylan Nichols.

Wesley Murphy and Dylan Penzien were first and second in the 3,200 and Brody Lopez (shot put), Caiden Lambers (high jump) and Bussell (long jump) were winners in the field events.

Caleb Hendrick won the 800, Max Foldvary the 1,600 and Nate Craanen the discus for SMCC.

SMCC’s girls earned a 81-47 victory.

The Kestrels spread the wealth with wins from Adela Illes (100), Claire Lisker (800, Bella LaFoutain (1,600), Samantha LaFountain (3,200), MaryAlice Lynch (high hurdles) Jessica Costlow (low hurdles), Ashley Ruhlig (long jump) and McKenna Payne (high jump). Ruhlig, Lynch, Illes and Costlow also won the 400 relay.

Milan’s Marissa Beck took both weight throws and the 200 and also joined the winning 800 relay with Julia Lorch, Angelina Wilson and Kaily McDaniel.

Powell, Masserant lead

MONROE – Katie Powell and Alyssa Masserant did work on the track, in the field and then together on a relay to lead Jefferson’s girls to a 90.5-37.5 victory over Riverview Tuesday

Powell took first in the 100, 200 and long jump, while Masserant finished second in the long jump and was first in the 400. The two teamed up for the winning 800 relay team along with Lindsay Masserant and Anna Boggs.

Local Sports: Milan outslugs Airport 10-6 in Huron League softball showdown

Jenna Pilachowski won the 1600 and was second in two other races.

The boys dropped their contest 75-53.

Michael Armetta (hurdles) and Ben Merkel (high jump, long jump) both logged multiple first place finishes and Nolan West won the 400. The Bears’ 800 relay (Orion Galloway, Zane Knezevich, Noah Hintz and Josh Hargreaves) beat the Pirates team by less than a second.

Bedford stays in race

YPSILANTI – Bedford’s boys took an important 75-62 victory over Ypsilanti Lincoln (4-3) to improve to 6-1 and remain in second place in the Southeaster Conference Red behind only Saline (7-0).

The Mules owned the 3,200 with Aiden Ortiz (10:46) edging out teammates Braiden Welch (10:49) and Jordan Bruce. Bedford also swept the high hurdles with Sawyer Ulery, Caleb Agius and Liam Agius.

In the field events, it was a Mule sweep in the discus with Mason Shultz, Andrew Jensen and Trenton Lachance and in the pole vault with Alex Beck, Cain Cole and Andrew Nelson.

Bedford’s girls suffered a tough 65-59 loss despite wins by Iva Ravindra (800), Reese Oberski (1,600), Gabriella Pisanti (high hurdles), Cheyenne Ivey (low hurdles) and Ava Eby (discus).

Foor, Bell power Jets

CARLETON – Matt Foor swept the throws and Callum Bell ruled the 800 meters and anchored the winning 3,200 relay with Isaiah Chapdelaine , Tyler Vaughn and Adrian Dawes to carry Airport's boys to a 74-54 win over Grosse Ile Tuessday.

Double-winner Courtney Bovair (800, 1,600) could not save Airport’s girls from a 74-45 loss.

Madison Bohem took first in 200 and anchored the 400 relay to victory with Payton Toth, Renee Schrewsberry and Joelle Schrewsberry.

Higdon sparks Ram win

FLAT ROCK – Reagan Higdon took the 100, 200, 400 meters and also anchored the winning 800 relay team to lead Flat Rock’s girls to a 71-57 victory over New Boston Huron Tuesday.

Higdon was joined by Sophia Chan, Whitney Nanassy and Mckenna Williams in the 800 relay. The Rams also won the 3,200 relay with Megan Woelkers, Sophia Durfee, Kyle Balogh and Arianna Hoover.

Chan added an individual first place finish in the 800 and Keola Botts won both the shot put and discus.

Monroe teams swept

ANN ARBOR – Both Monroe teams fell Tuesday Ann Arbor Huron and Dexter.

The boys fell 83-54 to Dexter and 80-57 to Huron.

Andrew Foshag placed second in the 800 and 1,600 runs, while Teegan Simmons won the low hurdles for the boys.

The girls lost 104-33 to Dexter and 89-35 to Huron.

Kazhmier Burns and Delani Willey had seconds and Viktoria Bloniarz a third.

Mason dominant

BRITTON – Erie Mason’s boys and girls overwhelmed three opponents Tuesday.

The boys beat Britton Deerfield 115-22, Lenawee Christian 108-29 and Toledo Emmanuel Christian 121-16. The girls trounced BD 102-23, Lenawee Christian 93-40 and Emmanel Christian 120-4.

Landen Nastale won the 100 and 200 meters and Austin Sulier ruled the 1,600 and pole vault to lead the boys. Other winners were Zach Worden (400), Logan Doom (800), Colin Parent (3,200), Ethan Albright )high hurdles), Lincoln Murbach (low hurdles) and Aaron Koehn (shot-put).

Beth Sweeney swept the hurdles and also took first in the high jump. Guilana Nastale doubled up in the 100 and 200. Other Eagle victories came from Audrey Trainor (800), Elizabeth Lambert (3,200), Mikaela Graves (shot-put), Bailey Meiring (pole vault) and Paige Konrad (long jump).

Summerfield shines in field

MORENCI – Summerfield’s boys swept the shot put, long jump and high jump in a 79-57 victory over Morenci Tuesday.

Teddy Gault won the high jump and long jump and Mitchell Gomulinski took the shot-put. Gault also took first in the high hurdles, while Brody St. John was the champ in the 800.

The girls won 73-58 behind wins from Bethany Suydam (200), Grace Raymond (400), Sophia Stanger (800), Makenzie Wolfe (1,600) and Elena Miller (3,200).

Whiteford rides relays

SAND CREEK – Whiteford’s boys easily handled Sand Creek 97-40, improving to 3-1 in the Tri-County Conference Tuesday.

The Bobcats swept the 400 (Brock Norman, Antonio Nachtrab, Stepan Masserant and Kolby Masserant), 800 (Nachtrab, Brody Hilliard, Ryin Ruddy and Jess Saylor), 1,600 (Nate Andrews, Ruddy, Saylor and Brek Ruddy), 3,200 (Keegan Masters, B Ruddy, Jakub Diesing and Zach Kahn) relays.

Masters (1,600, 3,200) and Ryin Ruddy (hurdles) were multiple winners for Whiteford.

“We have been competing well and hope to see our marks continue to drop as we get closer to regionals and the championship portion of the season,” coach Jay Yockey said.

The girls fell 78-59.

Braelynn Chiotti won the 1,600 and 3,200, while Alaina McClain was first in the 800 and Annabelle Gapp added a first in the low hurdles. Kenzie Gray (shot put) and Rylie DeSilvis (long jump) were first place finishers in the field events.
