Mike LaFleur loving Elijah Moore’s drive: ‘He wants it now’

Count Mike LaFleur among those who were impressed by Elijah Moore at OTAs and minicamp.

The Jets offensive coordinator, like many of Moore’s teammates and coaches, noticed something different about the rookie.

“This guy wants to be really, really good in this league,” LaFleur said this week. “He wants to make a name for himself. He’s so internally motivated and driven.”

That motivation has driven Moore throughout his career. Now it’s popping up in practice with the Jets. LaFleur noted that Moore always wants to learn how to improve after every play, comes in early to get extra work, and always appears prepared for what comes next.

Most impressive to LaFleur is Moore’s desire to make an impact early in his NFL career.

“He doesn’t want to wait a year,” LaFleur said. “He wants it now.

“The cool part about Elijah is that this guy just works. Elijah’s a fun dude to coach. And whatever success he has, he’s going to earn it.”

LaFleur and the Jets hope Moore can play a large role in the offense. He’s already become one of Zach Wilson’s favorite targets and proved he can make plays all over the field.

He’s only a rookie, but Moore looks like he can become an important player in the Jets offense right away.
