Who is starting for the Mets?

Jose Quintana takes the ball for the Mets in the series opener making his third start of the season. The left-hander is 0-2 through two starts with a 3.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.

While he's taken a pair of losses each time out, Quintana has thrown well in his first two starts. He did well to limit the damage his last time out as he held the Yankees to just three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five across six innings.

Quintana was able to work up to 94 pitches so he should be capable of handling a full workload the rest of the way.

In 32 starts last season with the Pirates and Cardinals, the lefty posted a career-best 2.93 ERA in 165.2 innings pitched. Quintana has allowed two earned runs or less in his last 15 starts dating back to July 2022.

Who is starting for the Royals?

Quintana and the Mets will be opposed by veteran right-hander Zack Greinke in this one.

The 39-year-old has struggled so far in his 20th season in the big leagues. Greinke has pitched to a 5.49 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 66 strikeouts through 20 starts on the year.

Over his last seven starts, he's posted a 7.20 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. His last time out, Greinke allowed four runs on four hits across just five innings in a loss to the Guardians.

The righty has made nine career starts against the Mets and he's posted a 3.49 ERA during those outings.

Upcoming schedule

The Mets and Royals continue their three-game set at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday at 8:10 p.m. on SNY.

Kodai Senga (7-5, 3.17 ERA) takes the ball for New York against 25-year-old right-hander Alec Marsh (0-5, 7.04 ERA).
