Dillon Brooks returns to Memphis, leads Houston Rockets to comeback victory over Grizzlies

Dillon Brooks' return to Memphis ended with a familiar sight: Brooks yelling at the opposing crowd after making a big play. For the first time, the Grizzlies were on the other end of noise.

Brooks led the Houston Rockets with 26 points, including a dagger 3-pointer with 39 seconds left, in the Grizzlies' 103-96 loss to Houston on Friday at FedExForum.

Brooks, back there as an opposing player for the first time, had 12 points in the third quarter as the Rockets erased Memphis' double-digit lead.

The Grizzlies began the game with great energy and ball movement, leading by as much as 17 points, but ugly offense plagued them in the second half.

Desmond Bane led the Grizzlies with 28 points and 13 rebounds after missing Wednesday's loss in Houston with an illness. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 22 points but on 8-of-23 shooting and was 0-for-7 from 3. The Grizzlies shot 11 of 40 from 3 as a team.

Recap the game below.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Houston Rockets live score updates

Dillon Brooks' late 3-pointer is the dagger for the Rockets

With the Grizzlies down 96-94 in the final minute, Dillon Brooks hits a 3-pointer and tells FedExForum about it.

That may have been the dagger. This will be a bitterly disappointing loss.

Desmond Bane gets technical foul after back and forth with Dillon Brooks

Desmond Bane gets a technical foul for talking close to Dillon Brooks' face early in the fourth quarter.

Bane probably would have been given the benefit of the doubt had he not gotten so close.

Rockets 75, Grizzlies 74, end 3Q: Rockets lead after three quarters

Memphis did on Wednesday what Houston did on Friday: eat into a double-digit lead. But while the Grizzlies could not claim the lead on Wednesday, the Rockets hold a one-point lead in Friday's game heading into the final 12 minutes.

Rockets shot 13 free throws in the third quarter and have shot 11 more free throws in the game.

Desmond Bane had 10 points in the third quarter, but the Grizzlies' offense lost the balance and movement from the first half.

Rockets 70, Grizzlies 70, 2:12 left 3Q: Rockets have clawed all the way back

Grizzlies offense has sputtered in the third quarter, and it's leading to baskets on the other end. Jalen Green's free throw late in the third period ties the game at 70-70.

Dillon Brooks has 12 points in the third quarter to boost Houston's half court offense.

Memphis led by as many as 17 points in the first half.

And not to pile on, but JJJ has four fouls and will sit for the remainder of the quarter.

Grizzlies 64, Rockets 60, 6:50 left 3Q: Houston closes within 4 after messy start to third quarter

The Rockets hit their first 3 3-point attempts of the second half to cut the lead to 64-60. Memphis' offense is not moving the ball like it did in the first quarter.

Dillon Brooks up to 9 points. Jaren Jackson Jr. leads the Grizzlies with 17 points (but somehow no rebounds).

Halftime: Grizzlies 55, Rockets 45

Odd end to the first half. Jabari Smith Jr. is called for a Flagrant 1 foul with .7 seconds left for pushing Santi Aldama. Aldama splits the pair of free throws, and Memphis' halftime lead is 10.

Jaren Jackson Jr. leads the Grizzlies with 13 points, and Desmond Bane has 10 points. Vince Williams Jr., Bismack Biyombo and Aldama have 8 points each.

Dillon Brooks has 2 points in his Memphis return, on 1-of-7 shooting.

Derrick Rose out for rest of game with hamstring soreness

Derrick Rose will not return to Friday's game, the Grizzlies said during the second quarter. Rose is battling left hamstring soreness. He had 3 points and 2 assists in 9 minutes before exiting.

Grizzlies 35, Rockets 25, 7:44 left 2Q: Tari Eason cuts into Memphis' lead

Tari Eason must love playing against the Memphis Grizzlies. He was Houston's leading scorer on Wednesday and has seven points in the first four minutes of the second quarter to push the Rockets to within 10.

Dillon Brooks has his first points on an offensive putback.

Grizzlies 29, Rockets 14, end 1Q: Memphis' stellar quarter ends with JJJ flurry

A very JJJ sequence at the end of the first quarter; Jaren Jackson Jr. gets an and-1 working against Jock Landale in the post, then blocks Jalen Green (with his elbow?) on the defensive end.

Rockets shot 6-of-24 in the quarter. Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and Dillon Brooks all held scoreless.

Grizzlies 23, Rockets 8, 3:51 left 1Q: Grizzlies continue with high-energy first quarter

At one point, the Grizzlies lineup included David Roddy, Santi Aldama and Jacob Gilyard with Desmond Bane and Bismack Biyombo. A little chaotic, but some excellent defense from that five. An Aldama basket pushes the Grizzlies lead to 15 and produces a Rockets timeout.

Rockets have started 3-of-16 shooting. Grizzlies only officially credited with one block at the moment, but that number is sure to change. Vince Williams Jr. rejected Jabari Smith Jr. at the rim early in that sequence.

Biyombo has six points and four rebounds in the first quarter.

Grizzlies 14, Rockets 5, 7:47 left 1Q: Better start for Memphis

Grizzlies lead 14-5 at the first timeout with a strong defensive effort early. Derrick Rose and Vince Williams have hit 3-pointers on the offensive end. Good movement creating good shots.

Dillon Brooks gets a tribute video during the first media timeout.

Desmond Bane cleared to play vs. Rockets

Desmond Bane has been cleared for Friday's game after missing Wednesday's game with an illness. He is in the starting lineup alongside Derrick Rose, Vince Williams Jr., Jaren Jackson Jr. and Bismack Biyombo.
