Meet The Clarion-Ledger's Large School all-state high school boys basketball teams for 2024

With the 2023-24 Mississippi high school basketball season coming to a close, The Clarion-Ledger put together its Large Class All-State first and second teams for this season. The two teams are comprised of MHSAA and MAIS players in Classes 4A-7A.

Here is who made the team.

First Team

Guards

Trey Alexander

Clinton | Senior

Why chosen: Alexander, the MHSAA Class 7A Mr. Basketball winner, helped lead a strong Clinton to the Class 7A state title game while averaging 20.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists. Alexander is a Holmes Community College commit.

D.J. Davis

Oxford | Senior

Why chosen: Davis averaged 25 points and six rebounds this season while impacting every game on both sides. Davis has recently committed to Jones College.

DeAndre Lewis

Canton | Senior

Why chosen: Lewis helped lead Canton to the MHSAA Class 5A state playoff game, winning its first title since 1997 while averaging 16.5 points and seven rebounds. Lewis has multiple Division I interests.

Dorian McMillian

Pascagoula | Senior

Why chosen: McMillian, who won the MHSAA Class 6A Mr. Basketball award, helped Pascagoula to a 28-2 record and averaged 16.3 points and 4.3 rebounds. He has received multiple Division I offers.

Damarion Winston

Yazoo City | Senior

Why chosen: Winston helped lead Yazoo City to the MHSSA Class 5A state title game this season after winning it last year. Winston, who averaged 15.2 points and 3.9 assists, is an Itawamba Community College commit.

Mike Williams

Jackson Academy | Junior

Why chosen: Helping lead Jackson Academy to a 36-1 record, Williams averaged 18.8 points and 6.7 rebounds while winning the MAIS Class 6A state title and MAIS Overall tournament title this season.

Forwards

Brewer Carruth

Parklane Academy | Senior

Why chosen: Carruth, a Southern Miss commit, helped Parklane Academy win the MAIS Class 5A state title game this season, averaging 21 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Tamarion Hoover

Yazoo City | Senior

Why chosen: Hoover, who averaged 16.8 points and 6.7 rebounds, led Yazoo City back to the state final game after consecutive years. Hoover is a Jackson State commit.

Eric Paymon Jr.

Raymond | Senior

Why chosen: Paymon, a recent Mississippi State commit, helped lead Raymond to its third consecutive state title appearance and won the MHSAA Class 4A title along with winning 4A Mr. Basketball. Paymon is the No. 1 class of 2024 recruit, who averaged 23.8 points and 9.1 rebounds this season.

Ashton Magee

Madison-Ridgeland Academy | Junior

Why chosen: Magee helped Madison-Ridgeland Academy to a 31-6 record and an appearance in the MAIS Overall tournament final game. Magee averaged 15.7 points and 8.5 rebounds and has Division I offers.

Avery Thomas II

Terry | Senior

Why chosen: Thomas led Terry to a 23-7 record and the semifinals of the MHSAA Class 6A state playoffs, averaging 15.9 points and 10.1 rebounds this season. He has Division I and JUCO offers.

Centers

Jamarion Davis-Flemming

Canton | Junior

Why chosen: Davis-Fleming averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks this season while taking Canton to the MSHAA Class 5A state title game and winning it for the first time since 1997. He also claimed 5A Mr. Basketball. The 6-foot-10 center has offers from multiple Division I schools.

Sam Funches

Germantown | Sophomore

Why chosen: The 6-foot-11 sophomore is the No. 1 center in the country in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports Composite. This season, Funches averaged 18.3 points, 11 rebounds and 6.2 blocks. Funches has multiple Division I offers.

Ebo Wilson

Ridgeland | Senior

Why chosen: Wilson helped lead Ridgeland to the MHSAA Class 6A state final game, where he averaged 8.5 points and 10.4 rebounds this season. Wilson has drawn Division I and JUCO interest.

Guard: Javion Yarbrough, Meridian, Sr.
