Meet the 2023 Corning/Elmira/Ithaca-area Elite 7 Boys Cross Country Team
Corning/Elmira/Ithaca Boys Runner of the Year
Douglas (DJ) Cornfield, Corning
Grade: Senior.
Achievements: Cornfield won the boys race at the Southern Tier Athletic Conference championship meet to lead the Hawks to the team title. He went on to place second in Class A at the Section 4 championships and placed 33rd in Class A at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet.
Michael Doyle, Chenango Valley
Grade: Junior.
Achievements: Doyle placed second in the Class C race at the Section 4 championship meet in a personal-best 17:13 and went on to finish 31st in Class C at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships. His season also included first place at Maine-Endwell's Pete Matzke Invitational.
John Garrison, Spencer-Van Etten
Grade: Senior.
Achievements: Garrison's season included a 5K personal record of 15:51, the Interscholastic Athletic Conference South Division title, overall IAC title, Section 4 Class D championship, a ninth-place Class D finish at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships and a 19th-place finish at the New York State Federation meet. He won 10 of the 12 5K races he competed in during the season.
Noah Hilker, Ithaca
Grade: Junior.
Achievements: Hilker finished second at the Southern Tier Athletic Conference championship meet, then won the Class A race at the Section 4 championships to help the Little Red capture the team title and qualify for the state meet. Hilker earned Scholar Athlete honors.
Riley Hubisz, Ithaca
Grade: Junior
Achievements: Hubisz placed 37th in Class A at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet, the second-highest finish for a Section 4 runner. He helped the Little Red capture the Section 4 Class A team championship and placed fourth in the premier race at the McQuaid Invitational. He earned Scholar Athlete honors.
Sullivan O'Donnell, Owego
Grade: Junior.
Achievements: He won the Class B race at the Section 4 championship meet at Chenango Valley State Park and posted a 5K personal record of 17:14 during the season.
Trent Thibault, Lansing
Grade: Sophomore.
Achievements: Thibault won the Section 4 Class C title with the 11th-best 5K time in school history (16:37.8), then placed third in the Class C race at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet with the ninth-best time in school history (16:34.3). His 40th-place showing in the New York State Federation Championships was the best ever for a Lansing boy and Thibault was named to the NYSPHSAA Class C all-state first team.
