Meet these 11 unsung heroes in Caddo-Bossier parish high school girls basketball
Most of them are selfless members of their teams – girls who aren’t as worried about the personal accolades as they are pushing their team toward success.
Rarely do they garner headlines or grab the attention of college recruiters. But make no mistake about it. Unsung athletes, coaches and support personnel are vital to their teams. Just about every team has at least one person who might be a bit undersized, but who set the example of a solid work ethic for their teammates.
Check out this group of girls from Caddo and Bossier parish schools, who join the boys' team. If you’re able to attend one of their games, single them out and tell them thanks for a job well done.
Tiffani Brown
Bossier, Sr.
The skinny: “Tiffani has done everything she can to keep this program together throughout her years as a Lady Bearkat. Even through the struggles these past couple years, she continues to motivate her teammates to trust the process. A pure leader and motivator on and off the court. Very grateful to have a player like her in this program to lead by example.” Coach Drake Smith

The skinny: “Kiley comes to practice every day with a positive attitude and positive approach to practice. She’s always motivating her teammates.” Coach Marcuz Johnson

Evangel, Fr.
The skinny: “MJ has the potential to be Evangel’s next best girl athlete. This young lady has all the skill in the world and is still learning. Her best attribute is that she is selfless. A great teammate who doesn’t mind taking a back seat.” Coach Eric Shepherd
Zanyah Lefear
Huntington, Sr.
The skinny: “Zanyah is a hardworking four-year varsity player who is one of the best shooters in the state. She is a joy to coach and a great teammate, and she makes this team so much better.” Coach Brian Shyne
LaCayla McGee
Green Oaks, Sr.
The skinny: “LaCayla is a quiet athlete who doesn’t score much but works extremely hard through her example of being on time, reliable, trustworthy, responsible, tireless and fearless. She is also an ‘A’ student and does not always seek recognition but deserves it because of her other attributes.” Coach Gideon Scarbrough
Mikayela Sanchez
Benton, Jr.
The skinny: “Mikayela suffered an ACL injury last year. She is an amazing leader. She is having a huge impact on our team this year.” Coach Mary Ward
Angel Turnbow
Airline, Assistant coach
The skinny: “Coach T has built relationships with most of our girls in middle school while coaching them, and they were super successful during that time. If you've ever met Coach T, you know she's smiling and bringing high energy all the time. I'm pretty sure these girls would run through a brick wall for her. She also goes above and beyond for the team which does not go unnoticed by the players and myself.” Coach Tucker Cox
Kamyra Turner
Haughton, Jr.
The skinny: “Kamyra didn’t play any basketball until her freshman year and is now a possible starter. No one plays harder or plays better defense. She’s our biggest success from hard-work story.” Coach Jenna Bolin
Queen White
Northwood, Sr.
The skinny: “Queen does an unbelievable job of bringing the team together. She is always there to pick up her teammates and is a leader on and off the court. She is the glue of this team.” Coach Will Burton

The skinny: “My seventh graders come to practice daily and give us enough people to go 5-on-5.” Coach Robbie Lockwood
