Masters replay: Scottie Scheffler tied for lead, Tiger Woods makes cut, who missed cut

The 88th Masters Tournament is beginning to define itself after a blustery day led to high scores and a cutline that kept shifting higher throughout the day.

Only 14 of the 89 players are under par as the second round ended and the cutline moved to 6-over par as wind has took its toll.

One of the players who will be around this weekend is five-time champion Tiger Woods, who navigated 23 holes on the day as a true veteran. He's at 1-over 145 through two rounds.

Follow along here for updates down the stretch from the Augusta Chronicle.

Check out the USA TODAY live scoreboard here.

Who is Masters leader? Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Max Homa tied

A three-way tie at the top will set the stage for an exciting moving day Saturday at the Masters. Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa will battle for the lead, and it will be interesting to see who else can contend on what should be a calmer day weather-wise.

Tiger Woods will be in the field on the weekend after making his 24th straight cut, and 60 total players will still be in the tournament with a chance to don the green jacket.

It should be fun.

Where does Scottie Scheffler sit after second round?

The World No. 1 is on top of his game again as he battled to an even-par round on an extremely windy day. He holds a share of the lead with Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa at 6-under.

Masters cut line shifts

A Hideki Matsuyama double bogey on the 18th has shifted the cutline to 6-over, where 11 players went from having the weekend off to suddenly preparing for more golf. Sneaking into the weekend because of the change are the likes of Adam Scott, Rickie Fowler, Matsuyama and Augusta's own Luke List.

Viktor Hovland and Masters cut

After going 6-over on the first nine, Viktor Hovland is in danger of missing the cut after a bogey and double bogey on hole Nos. 14 and 15, respectively. He's now at 8-over par after beginning the day 1-under.

The Masters cut line Friday evening

The current cut is 5-under par. There are currently 53 golfers at 5-under or better.

Three-way tie at the top of the second round of the Masters

Scottie Scheffler caught a good break at No. 12 on Thursday in his first round. He couldn't repeat the feat Friday.

His second shot went into the tributary of Rae's Creek that fronts the green and he took a bogey 6 to fall back to 6 under in a tie with Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa.

Rory McIlroy made his seventh consecutive par on a par-5 hole, a huge surprise for one of the longest hitters in the game.

Defending champion Jon Rahm has made a double bogey on No. 14 and is now in danger of missing the cut. He's at 6 over with four holes to play.

Wind continues to wreak havoc as Bryson DeChambeau falls out of lead

A couple of short missed putts on 17 and 18 have cost Bryson DeChambeau the top of the leaderboard, and perhaps a spot in the final pairing for Saturday's third round of the Masters Tournament.

DeChambeau's closing bogey on 18 gave him a 1-over-par 73 for the day and he's at 6-under 138 through two rounds.

Max Homa finished his round at 6 under ahead of DeChambeau, meaning he would get the later tee time if they tie. Scottie Scheffler is currently in the lead at 7 under as he plays No. 12.

Scottie Scheffler back atop the Masters leaderboard; could Masters cut move to 5 over?

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler made birdies on Nos. 8 and 10 to tie Bryson DeChambeau for the top spot at the Masters as he heads into Amen Corner.

Scheffler hit the longest drive of the day on No. 10 at 350 yards, to make a birdie inside 10 feet and be at 7-under par for the tournament.

Currently, 52 players are at 4 over or better, but there are five players on the course at that total. If more than two come in over par, three more players at 5 over would make the cut for the weekend.

Camilo Villegas, JT Poston and Keegan Bradley might not be rooting for anyone to fail, but with the way scores are going, they shouldn't be packing up any bags yet.

Bryson DeChambeau goes for adventure on 13

DeChambeau hit his tee shot so far right on the 13th hole that he had to hit his second shot onto the 14th fairway. He had to remove signage on the course to create a path for his second shot, but set himself up for a nice wedge into the hole on his third shot. He managed to birdie the hole from there and now leads by two shots at 8-under.

Did Tiger Woods make the Masters cut?

Woods recorded par on the 18th to finish at 1-over and safely inside the projected cut of 4-over par. It's safe to say that he will make his 24th consecutive Masters cut, breaking a record he held with Fred Couples and Gary Player. He's currently tied for 28th.

Bryson DeChambeau retakes Masters lead

Dechambeau recorded birdie on No. 12 to break a three-way tie with Scottie Scheffler and Max Homa to return to the top of the leaderboard.

Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau drop shots

DeChambeau bogeyed the 11th while Scheffler did the same at the fifth as both fell back into a tie at 6-under with Max Homa.

Tiger Woods cut watch

Woods birdied the 15th to get to 1-over par for the tournament and he remained there with a par on the 16th. The cutline remains at 4-over. Woods seeks his 24th consecutive Masters cut which would break a tie with Fred Couples and Gary Player for most all time.

Has Bryson DeChambeau won the Masters?

DeChambeau's best Masters finish was 21st in 2016. He led after the first round in 2019 after a 6-under 66, but faded with a 75-73 in rounds two and three. DeChambeau's lone major was the 2020 US Open at Winged Foot.

The LIV golfer is currently tied for first with 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler.

Has Scottie Scheffler won the Masters?

The top player in the world claimed the green jacket in 2022. He's currently tied atop the leaderboard with Bryson DeChambeau.

Bubba Watson records quadruple bogey

The two-time Masters champion was teetering around the cutline on Friday before a quadruple bogey on the 11th hole. He hit his second shot in the water before hitting his fourth shot thin and past the hole. After chipping back onto the green, he 3-putted from there for an 8. He dropped from 4-over, one shot back of the cutline, to 8-over and in a tie for 80th.

Bryson DeChambeau saves par to stay in lead

The leader struggled on the par-5 second hole but managed to scramble out of the front bunker to save par. He remains 7-under and tied with Max Homa.

Nicolai Højgaard bounces back with pair of birdies

Sahith Theegala comes apart on No. 3

The World No. 15 golfer had a collapse on the third hole Friday. His second shot into the third hole spun off the green and rolled back into the fairway. It took three more attempts from the same spot to put the ball next to the cup, as it kept rolling back to his feet. He soon missed a 10-foot putt before rolling in for a triple bogey. He dropped from 2-over to 5-over on the hole.

Max Homa ties for the lead at 7-under

Homa drained a 30-footer up the hill at No. 4 to tie Bryson DeChambeau atop the Masters leaderboard. Homa is 2-under on his round after another birdie at the second.

Tiger Woods makes first birdie in Masters second round

Woods has moved back to even par for the tournament after dropping a downhill slider on No. 3.

Morning groupings had the advantage in Round 1

Players in the first half of the tee times for Round 1 beat their counterparts for the afternoon times by about 2 shots based off final scores from Round 1.

Most of that came from the incredible struggles for players that returned to the course this morning to finish their rounds.

In all, 27 players had to play at least one hole on Friday morning. In all, that group played 132 holes to finish their rounds – and went a combined 52-over par on them. Jordan Spieth's quad and Brian Harman's triple didn't help, but a slew of double bogeys around the grounds led to those big numbers.

Only three players improved their position on the leaderboard this morning before Round 2: Max Homa (1 under on five holes); Cameron Young (1 under on four holes) and Collin Morikawa (2 under on eight holes).

Quiet start to second round of Masters

Despite a generous setup for Friday's second round of the Masters, there hasn't been a lot of movement so far as tee times get underway, although the big-name players are just getting into their rounds.

Tiger Woods has parred his first two holes of Round 2, while playing partner Max Homa made a birdie on No. 2 to pull within one shot of the lead.

Matthieu Pavon and Cameron Young are both 2 under on their round through the first few holes, while Nicolai Hojgaard took a bogey on No. 5 to fall to 4 under.

10:06 a.m.: First round of Masters is complete

Dustin Johnson and Tommy Fleetwood both made bogeys on 18 to close out the first round of the Masters Tournament on Friday morning.

The completion of the first round knocked a significant number of players down the leaderboard, as wind and faster greens at Augusta National Golf Club have given a sense of what to expect in the second round today.

Leader Bryson DeChambeau tees off at 11:54 a.m. and he tops a LIV Golf contingent that took it on the chin on Friday morning. Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson all struggled in their return to the course.

Tiger Woods completes first round

The 18th hole knocked back the grouping of Tiger Woods to finish off their first round.

Woods made bogey to shoot 1-over-par 73, while Jason Day also made bogey from the trees to finish with 75.

Homa also couldn't make a sand save; his closing bogey left him with 67, two shots off the lead.

They'll get about 45 minutes before they return to No. 1 to start their round.

Max Homa makes his charge at the Masters

Almost an afterthought as the third player in the Tiger Woods-Jason Day grouping for the first two days at the Masters, Max Homa is putting down quite the statement.

He closed Thursday evening with a birdie on No. 13, then has charged on Friday morning.

He slid in a birdie putt on No. 16 and nearly holed out from the fairway on No. 17 for eagle. His kick-in birdie there moves him to 6 under, one shot behind leader Bryson DeChambeau.

Meanwhile, Masters rookie Nicolai Hojgaard parred in this morning to complete a round of 67. He's two behind the lead.

Friday morning carnage puts famous names in deep trouble

If you were wanting to watch Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth or Brian Harman over the weekend, you might want to start making other plans.

Or hope your man makes a big charge later this morning.

The 15th hole took out Spieth in dramatic fashion after he hit his fourth shot in the water from over the green and finished with a quadruple-bogey 9. He's now at 6 over.

Johnson, meanwhile, took double bogey on 14 and hit his third shot in the water on 15 and made another double to fall to 5 over.

Harman, the reigning Open Championship winner, doubled 13 to start his day, took a triple on No. 16 and doubled 17 and 18. He finished the second nine with a 47 and finished 9 over.

Heralded Masters rookie Ludvig Aberg is also getting his initiation to Augusta National, falling from 2 under to 1 over after a bogey on 14 and a double on 15.

Tiger Woods turns toward home; Jason Day wipes out on 16

Woods stabilized after his morning bogey, nearly chipping in for birdie on No. 15 and making a two-putt par on No. 16.

He remains at even par with two holes to play in Round 1.

Jason Day, meanwhile, made a surprising double bogey on No. 16, hitting his tee shot in the water.

Masters second-round pin placements

As you start watching the second round later today, here's a peek at where the pins will be. You'll see some good shots on the par-3 6th and at the closing 18th, where the pins are located at the base of slopes that will pull the ball back toward the hole.

A more western wind would affect the east-west holes. Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 15 would be into the wind, as could the second shots into 13; Nos. 7, 9, 14 and 17 would have the wind at the players' back.

With the wind out of the north, Nos. 2, 5, 10 and 11 will generally be downwind, with Nos. 8, 13 and 18 into the wind.

Based on early returns, the wind will limit players' chances to go for the green in two on No. 15. We've already had three double bogeys this morning: Tyrrell Hatton, Adam Scott and Sam Burns.

Tiger Woods, Tyrrell Hatton struggle to start Masters on Friday

Fan favorite Tiger Woods hit the best drive of his grouping to open the day on No. 14, but he mishit his approach and took a bogey on the uphill par 4 to start his day.

He's back to even par for the tournament.

Meanwhile, England's Tyrrell Hatton took a double bogey on No. 15 to drop from 3 under to 1 under.

Masters weather Friday morning

As players begin to restart their first rounds, yesterday's storm front has fully moved through, but behind the front it's been breezy.

Accuweather has the temperature at 7:45 a.m. at 54 degrees with wind out of the north. Skies are clear, but definitely a brisk kind of morning for a jacket or long sleeves.

Temperatures should get into the low 70s today; predicted high is 73.
