Manchester City vs Luton Town

Manchester City secure a comfortable 5-1 victory over Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium. It took just two minutes for Guardiola's side to take the lead as Haaland's effort deflected off Luton defender Hashioka and flew into the top corner. The Hatters defended well until half-time, with Kaminski helping ensure the score was only 1-0 at the break. In the second half, the home side continued to stamp their authority on the match, and they doubled their lead through Kovacic, who fired into the top corner from inside the box. Shortly after, City were awarded a penalty after Doku was brought down, and Haaland was there to dispatch from 12 yards. The Hatters were handed a glimmer of hope as Barkley pounced on a mistake at the back to make it 3-1, but Doku got himself on the scoresheet shortly after to make it 4-1. The Citizens sealed the three points late on as Gvardiol produced a superb strike from the edge of the box. Man City will end Saturday at the top of the Premier League table, while Luton remain in the bottom three. That's all for today, goodbye!

Luton have shown more of a threat in the final third in the second half of the game, producing four shots since the break and touching the ball inside City's box eight times. Guardiola's side have shown more of a clinical edge since half-time, and they've simply had too much firepower for the Hatters from an attacking sense.

Luton will have an opportunity from a free-kick, deep inside the Man City half, as Lewis upended Chong just outside the penalty area. Manchester City vs Luton Town

16:30

De Bruyne has been at the heart of everything for Man City in today's game, and he receives the ball once again just outside the Luton penalty area. He floats a delivery towards the back post and Lewis looks to slide it back into the danger zone, but he doesn't get enough on it and Kaminski is able to collect.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

16:28

Luton go close! The Hatters look to hit City on the counter-attack as Onyedinma robs the ball from Gvardiol. He drives into the penalty area and gets to the byline before pulling it back to around the penalty spot. Woodrow arrives into the box and he attempts to bend it towards the top corner, but it cannons off the bar and away from danger! He feeds Dias on the edge of the area and the Portuguese defender strikes it first-time towards goal, but his shot whistles inches past the post! Kaminski was rooted the spot!

Manchester City vs Luton Town

16:18

City have started the second half as they ended the first and they continue to dominate the possession at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola's side have enjoyed 80.7 per cent of the ball, but they have struggled to create any clear-cut chances since the break.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

16:01

City created 1.78 expected goals in the first half from 19 shots, with six of those being on target. The home side have enjoyed 75.6 per cent of the possession, while completing 291 passes in the opposition half. Luton have been camped inside their own box for the most part, but they've done well to limit Guardiola's men to just one goal. With just nine passes in the final third before the break, it wouldn't be a surprise to see a tactical tweak from Edwards as he hopes to see his side show more of a threat in attack. Luton have limited options from the bench due to having a host of injuries, but the Hatters could turn to Woodrow to offer something different going forward. Guardiola has some serious talent waiting in the wings if he wants to make a change - could we see Foden, Grealish, or Bernardo Silva early in the second half?

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:56

Manchester City go into the break with a 1-0 lead over Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium. The home side might feel they should have at least a couple more after a dominant display in today's game, but they haven't been clinical enough in the final third. It took just two minutes for Guardiola's men to open the scoring, as Haaland's acrobatic effort rebounded off the head of Hashioka and flew into the top corner. Since then, City have looked the more likely to score the second, with Nunes unfortunate not to find the back of the net as his effort glanced off the post. Edwards will be happy to go into half-time just one goal down, but he will be demanding plenty more from his team from an attacking sense, with the Hatters struggling to get into City's half in the opening 45 minutes.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:43

Doku is causing plenty of problems for the Luton defence, and the Belgian winger wins another corner for the home side. Alvarez delivers it into the penalty area and it's headed away. De Bruyne is there to meet it and he strikes from the edge of the area, but the Hatters get enough bodies in the way and are able to clear.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:40

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:21

City go close! De Bruyne is found by Dias on the right-hand side, just a few years outside the penalty area. He floats a delivery to the back post and Haaland is there to meet it, but the Norwegian striker doesn't connect well with the shot and it flies over the bar and goes behind for a goal-kick to Luton.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:21

It's been a dominant opening 16 minutes of the game from Man City, who have enjoyed 82.5 per cent of the possession. Guardiola's side have also created 0.86 expected goals (xG) from six shots, while touching the ball inside the opposition box 15 times. Luton have completed just 16 passes so far.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:18

Doku receives the ball on the edge of the penalty area and he shifts it onto his right foot before getting to the byline. He pulls it back inside the box and Nunes is there to meet it, but he produces a tame effort and Kaminski is able to save comfortably. Guardiola's side are turning the screw in search of a second.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:15

Doku is looking to cause problems on the left-hand side as he stands up Townsend. De Bruyne has made a run ahead of him and Doku slots the ball into his path, but the Belgian midfielder goes down under the challenge of Berry, but the referee has waved away his protests. He's having none of it!

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:13

Alvarez is standing over the corner and City have surrounded Kaminski in the six-yard box, throwing plenty of bodies forward for this one. The Argentine attacker takes and he floats it to the edge of the area where De Bruyne is there to meet it, but he volleys it high and wide into the stands behind the goal.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:13

As it stands, Man City have climbed to the top of the Premier League table above Arsenal and Liverpool, with the latter two sides to play tomorrow. Guardiola and his team will be hoping to apply the pressure by securing the three points today. City come forward once again as Kovacic pokes the ball to Gvardiol on the edge, but his shot is parried behind for a corner by Kaminski.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

15:09

It's been an intense opening few minutes from Man City, and despite Guardiola's side enjoying a stroke of luck with the own goal, Luton need to tighten up at the back to get a result in today's game. Haaland was afforded too much space when he broke through initially, and Edwards will be disappointed with the lack of concentration from his defence.

Man City are hoping to climb to the top of the Premier League table in today’s game, at least temporarily, as they continue to battle with Arsenal and Liverpool for the title. Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in their last 40 home games in all competitions (W34 D6), just two short of their all-time club record of 42 set between December 1919 and November 1921. The home team have won their last four home league games against Luton by an aggregate score of 12-1. They last hosted them in April 1999 in the third tier (2-0), while they last did so in the top-flight in February 1992 (4-0).
