Magic pay homage to ‘Heart and Hustle era’ with retro jersey, court

The Magic are turning back the clock to celebrate their 35th season of basketball.

Orlando unveiled a fresh ‘Classic Edition’ uniform and court design during a special tip-off event at Amway Center on Friday.

The uniform, that features a retro Magic wordmark splashed across the front and the team’s iconic star throughout the design, is a replica of the style worn by the team from 1998-2003.

Magic fans won’t have to wait long to see the uniform and court in action. Orlando will debut both Oct. 25 against the Houston Rockets on opening night at Amway Center.

Orlando will wear the throwback jerseys and play on the unique court 10 times during “Classic Night” home games, the team said.

Classic Night schedule

  • Oct. 25 vs. Houston

  • Nov. 11 vs. Milwaukee

  • Dec. 20 vs. Miami

  • Jan. 7 vs. Atlanta

  • Jan. 19 vs. Philadelphia

  • Feb. 13 vs. Oklahoma City (TNT)

  • Mar. 3 vs. Detroit

  • Mar. 29 vs. LA Clippers

  • Mar. 30 vs. Memphis

  • Apr. 14 vs. Milwaukee (final regular season game)

In attendance for the event Friday were current and former Magic players — including Jalen Suggs, Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, Ryan Anderson, Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw — as well as 35-year Orlando season ticket holders, 35-year club partners and team staffers.

“We were thrilled to be able to host a celebration recognizing 35 years of Magic basketball for our season ticket holders and partners who have been with us from the beginning,” Magic CEO Alex Martins said. “For more than three decades, Magic fans have told stories about their love for the team and in particular this Heart and Hustle era.

“A team that stands for hard work and determination, leaving everything out on the court. These traits are forever woven into the 35-year fabric of our organization and bring great pride to Magic fans and our city alike. We celebrate the endless devotion of our fans with this year’s Classic Edition uniform.”

The new Classic Edition jerseys will be available for purchase Oct. 2 at the team shop at Amway and online at www.orlandomagicshop.com.
